Serah POV
"I-"
"Serah!!"
Jess interrupted us barging into the room. Did she think that she owned the place, probably?
"Later baby girl, we are talking right now."
I didn't appreciate her manners. She should know by now.
"No! it can't wait, talk later."
Jess was panicking, even though it might have been important, it could wait if she was serious about whatever she had to say. I let out a long sigh and turned towards Jay.
Jay wanted to talk back but did Jess let him, I don't think so.
"Jay, you, get out."
He was about to counter-attack but her infamous glare was enough for him to back off. With his head down he got out of my room. Now I turned towards Jess and was going to give her a piece of my mind.
"I was busy and it was important-"
I couldn't finish my sentence, it irritated me even more.
"You were going to reject him!"
How could she know, I meant how could she, the rooms here were soundproof.
"How did-"
"I might have eavesdropped."
She said shyly and guilty.
"But the-"
"I have alpha blood."
What the h*ll was she doing? She had no right if I remembered her words the mate bond was between two people only.
"So what? I wanted to reject him and it doesn't concern you!"
I was mad, I needed to break that bond faster; if not it will be harder for him and might be for me too.
"Please, don't reject him."
The prideful little alpha said 'please' how rare of her.
"Why? Don't want to stay my whole life with that jerk! And weren't you mad at him too?"
Accepting the mate bond was a big NO. Sorry Jessica but I couldn't, someone was waiting for me at home.
"Yeah I know, he's the stupidest person alive sometimes but also a lovely and caring-"
"Brother? He was a caring brother but it doesn't mean he'll be the same with me! If you heard him in that cell with me you wouldn't say that!"
She didn't know anything, what he said still hurt.
"I'm sorry sis, but give it some time before doing anything reckless. You might not know but he waited for you his whole life and the last four years might have been torture for him. I'm not defending him because he's my brother, heu... maybe a little but if the moon goddess decided to put you two together it must have a good reason. Didn't you wanted a mate too?"
All she said was right but was it worth it. I always wanted a mate since I heard about the concept but my human condition wouldn't allow that. Did the moon goddess heard my prayers and send me a gift?
"I won't reject him, yet."
Her eyes widened at my announcement and threw herself on me.
"Really!! For real!! Let's just get rid of the 'yet'."
Her happiness was contagious; my scowl slowly transformed into a thin smile even though I was still mad at her.
"You're asking for too much now."
I chuckled because she was so cute when she pouted. Our hug got interrupted by the lady in the white coat that just went in. There were no other words than gorgeous to describe her; long black hair, still shorter than mine, and piercing green eyes; she should be around my age, I think.
"Dina! What are you doing here?"
Jess exclaimed.
"Nothing much, Jay just told me to give her back her bag."
She walked towards me and gave me my bag and bent down to peck Jess' cheek. Jessica let go of me to give the peck back. The warm sensation when she was on me was now long gone. I guess she had time to bond with the others when I was in my slumber.
"Do you want to stay with us? You two need to be introduced to one another."
Jess said when 'Dina' was directing herself towards the exit; she should have gone faster.
"I am so sorry but Jay is waiting for me in his office."
I didn't know why but I just didn't like her.
"Jay. Since when are you two close?"
Jess' asked a question that might have crossed my mind but I couldn't remember. I was now looking at her with intensity and I remarked her cheeks getting red.
"No, I mean we'are just good friend, anyway he's waiting for me so later and Serah let's get to know each other next time."
With this, Dina hurried out of here and rejoin her 'alpha'. A chuckle brought me back to reality, I saw her smirking this b*tch.
"What!?"
I violently asked her but she continued to smirk.
"Why were you glaring at her?"
"I wasn't."
That was true, I was only intensively looking at her.
"Why do you keep fighting the-"
"Oh shit! I need to call mom!"
I thought to say that to distract her but I really need to call her. How could I forget about my birth giver?
"Don't you dare-"
I cut her off because there was no time to argue.
"Jess, we are really going to be in deep deep shit if we don't call her now."
I knew that she wanted to add something but let go because she knew I was right. I urgently looked for my phone inside of my backpack and on it. After a few long seconds, the lock screen finally appeared. Here I saw 53 missed calls from mom and 16 unread messages; I was so doomed. I quickly called her back because now every second counted.
"Mom?"
I asked unsurely.
"You, ungrateful child! How many times did I tell you to call once you're there."
She was infuriated and had all the rights to be but I had a good excuse.
"Mom, I broke a few of my ribs and was severely injured so I had to stay a few days to rest. I didn't mean to ignore you."
That was all I could mutter and hoped that she won't stay mad at me. After a long silence, I heard someone laughing on the line.
"You don't have to lie because you wanted to stay with her. I knew you would want to stay there after the descriptions of Jess-."
I had to stop her, I wasn't lying.
"Mom! I almost died"
My statement only made her laugh harder.
"Yeah yeah, whatever."
That was so irritating but it was for the best.
"By the way, I'll be in China for the next three months so you could stay with her the time being and let me talk to Jess."
Mom broke the news by saying that she was actually in China surely for one of her conferences. I didn't add anything and gave the phone to Jess.
I could tell by her face that mom said everything that a mother would and surely told her to keep in touch and to call her often. She ended the call and was about to cry so I took her in my arms and gave all the support that I could. She let go and was fully recharged, she stretched a bit and said:
"I'm going to the kitchen, wanna come with me?"
"Maybe after, the bed is so comfy."
I wasn't that hungry but wouldn't refuse if I wasn't that comfortable.
"Move your lazy ass off the bed! It's not even like you're hurt or anything now."
She really wanted me to move but there was no way.
"I'm psychologically damaged!!"
I shouted putting my head inside the blanket and turned my back on her. She sighed and left because I wouldn't move off the bed. I was tired so I took this opportunity to take a nap.
...
"Serah!!"
Two arms got me out of my beautiful dream; I was about to finish that cake!
"Let me finish it first, go away."
I muttered half asleep.
"What are you talking about? Anyway, wake up now!!"
She shouted in my ears, it made me jump out of the bed and fall from the bed. If looks could kill, she'll be 25ft under.
"Why are you so agitated?"
That's impolite to wake someone's up without their consent; didn't she learn that?
"It's my brother! You need to help him!!"
The mention of my mate sobered me up.
"Why should I?"
If she thought I would say yes, it was a lost battle.
"He's losing control, his wolf is quite mad and... sad so they're fighting for control."
Oh, that, Zaphira sometimes came out but it wasn't a problem.
"So what if he loses control, there is no big deal."
Those words made her panic but it confused me more.
"You don't understand Volker is really angry and he could hurt innocent people!"
What? Why? I didn't think that she had the time to answer that.
"Okay, but how could I help?"
Why me? She could do that right.
"You're the only one he's willing to listen, he won't ever hurt his mate!"
"You sure about that?"
I asked with an undertone of sarcasm. Did you forget what he has done to me?
"Sis, Volker, and Jayson are not the same; Volker lives for you."
Really? I knew wolves were dedicated to their mates so I should right.
"Okay, so what should I do?"
"Let's go; he's in the packhouse kitchen."
Arrived there, we could see a hole in the wall; plates were in thousand pieces on the floor and Jayson destroying everything he touched.
Some people tried to stop him and most of them ended up flying through the kitchen. I recognized one of them, Theo was on the floor with red marks on his neck. I turned towards Jess and saw tears gathering in her eyes.
Jay stalked towards Theo with the intent to kill, those warriors were only trying to protect him from their alpha. However, no one was left and Theo was at Jay's mercy.
I needed to save him, I could really end up dead.
So I ran towards him and snaked my arms around his waist and buried my head in his back. I waited for him to send me flying but he stopped, he stopped moving. I could now feel his body relax under my touch so I loosened my embrace; he took this opportunity to turned around and cup my face with his massive and gentle hand. I was met with the most alluring golden eyes I had ever met, everything about this man was now attractive.
"Mate, you are here."
Wasn't it the first time I was confronted with this husky voice? Yes, I was here. Was I? Because his everything made my body temperature rose and sent me to another world.
"But you hate me because of that bastard of a human."
I couldn't even reply that he carried on his speech and let go of me to look for something or someone to release his furry. So I cupped his face with my hands now and looked straight in his eyes.
"Who said so? Isn't it the first time we meet: I'm Serah and you?"
He didn't seem like a bad wolf, he was just hurt and I understood. If I could at least be friends with him, wouldn't he calm himself?
"Volker."
He fell on his knees first then to the ground.
He fainted.
