The Daughter Of Two Legends

It didn't matter that most of her impending threats were now dead and laying at her feet. It didn't matter that her hair had fallen from it's high ponytail, a small inconvenience that would usually through her off her hunting game. It didn't matter that the tremendously scared family she had safety secured in the basement started to band against the locked door, begging for answers to their frightful questions. It also didn't matter that each one of the bodies that had been thrashed and mangled by the merciless knife she wielded in her hand was now permanently imprinted in her palm, shaking wildly between her figures. The crimson blood glossing her weapon and soaking her favorite shirt wasn't very significant either. She no longer cared about what kind of mental or physical state she happened to be in, for tonight she couldn't find the time to complain.

Absolutely nothing mattered to Y/N in that bittersweet moment. At least until one simple sound echoed through the silent house. That sound was the hellish chime of the clock striking midnight.

Suddenly, her chest gasped aggressively in frantic spasms as she fought to fill her desperate lungs with lively air, but no matter the amount of oxygen she managed to collect, her breath was still shuddering with each inhales and exhales. She had imagined the noise so many nights before. The haunting ticks of the clock hands running their course, never missing a single beat, until finally both of them land perfectly on the dreaded number twelve. God, how she absolutely despised that sound. She hated it so much that whenever she heard the steady clicking of a timepiece, she would wince with anxiousness.

However, this time she just froze, her body completely paralyzed. She felt forever stuck in one position, that it truly felt like nothing could shatter her trance. Not even the sound of her uncle's voice calling for her. She heard him, despite the mini panic attack coursing through her small frame. Though it was distorted, his distressed song hammered in her ears making her shut her eyes in annoyance. She tries to break her spell, bringing her free hand to her temple to wipe away the ringing in her head. She feels dizzy, her feet stumbling through the hallway of demon bodies, demanding for her body to walk towards Sam's yells. With each step, his voice begins to rebound louder and louder. She could tell she was close, but something in her heart stops her from moving.

Peering down the hallway, she catches a glimpse of the creatures balanced movements. Maybe it was her vivid imagination or maybe it was just her mind playing gruesome tricks on her, either way, she watches the hellhound sway its tail, bending down into attack mode. Its low growl comes next, making all of her efforts to breathe, stop dead in her throat. 'Please,' her heart weeps, dropping aimlessly to the pit of her stomach. The feeling makes her weak in the knees, the thought of what was to come next almost flooring her right then.

She wanted to cry out for him. For anybody.

Her tears start to assemble at the base of her eyes, a few slipping pass the barrier and landing on the wooden floor beneath her. Slamming her fist against the wall, she held back a depressed sob. She wasn't supposed to be crying. She wasn't supposed to be feeling this way. She was stronger than this.

Behind the darkness of her eyelids, she could practically envision her father's disappointment laced in his green eyes. To him, she was never good enough. A feeling that constantly made her want to be better, pushing her every limit of strength, power, and agility. She was a hunting machine, but controlling emotions was something she lacked.

The burning sensation of failure and rejection was constant between their relationship. The bitterness and hate seemed to cast both ways, each of them responsible for ruining the others life. It had been that way ever since she could remember. It was hard for her to imagine a time where they weren't continuously at each other's throats, arguing and spitting poisonous words at one another until Sam finally had the nerve to break it up. Sometimes she couldn't help but want to strangle him herself, others she found herself caring for him. For he wasn't the worst father in the beginning and he certainly wasn't bad enough to deserve this punishment.

She hated him, but loved him at the same.

Despite everything, Dean did truly love his daughter. She was everything to him. Resilient, strong, independent, and beautiful. His little angel that came into his life with nothing but pure innocence, only to be mistreated by the one she counted on the most. To say Dean had his regrets was a major understatement. He promised Y/N from the moment he decided to keep her for his own, that he would be nothing like his father before him. But, old habits tend to die hard and it turns out he was meant to be exactly like him. A choice that destroyed his relationship with her before it even had the chance to grow.

Over time, the bright light that she once held in her eyes when she looked at him quickly evaporated like it wasn't even there to begin with. Dean hated himself for that. His daughter loved him, but his selfishness wouldn't allow anyone close to him. So he pushed her way until finally, it was as if the two of them were complete strangers.

But even strangers come through sometimes.

Grinding her teeth together in determination, she paces the rest of the way towards the living room. Blood stained every inch of the hallway, making her gag at the strong stench. The whole house looked as if there had been a massacre, the only thing untouched was the room her father, uncle, and Ruby was current hiding in. As she crawls closer to the doorway, the clock bells become a much crisper sound. She could hear somewhat clearly again, the noises buzzing around her no longer sounding like she was submerged under water.

"I'm sorry, Dean," Ruby's voice ricochets down the hallway, "I wouldn't wish this upon my worst enemy."

Suddenly, the deep snarls of the hellhounds appear awfully close to Y/N's figure. So close, that she could feel their hot breaths linger against her thigh. Her heart skips a few beats before jumping back into a stable rhythm. They're not here for me, they are here for him. The thought brings her no comfort, but it allows her to slip past them. In that instant, she grabs the door handle and slides between the crack, entering the room so quick that the monsters beside her don't even have a chance to comprehend her actions. She locks the door, even though she knows it won't barricade much.

"Y/N?"

It's Sam's voice. His worried tone unmistakable even in the midst of battle. Taking a shaky breath, she turns towards the boys and jolts away from the doors. Though she tries hard to ignore it, she could still hear the beasts roaring from the other side. Her heart quaked in her chest as she subconsciously moves closer to her father. She could see the fear radiating off of him, his entire body tensing up, yet she continues to rely on him for protection. She places her hand on his upper arm, her subtle way of reminding him that she was still there and she wasn't going anywhere. He gives her a softened look as if he was apologizing. For what, she wasn't sure, but she could see the pain sweltering in his eyes. Another tear cascades down her cheek only to be caught by Dean's thumb.

At that moment, she forgives him. Yes, he wasn't always father of the year, but he tried his best and that's all she could ever ask for.

She embraces him in a tight hug, her thin arms wrapping around his neck as she struggles a bit with the height difference. It takes a second for his brain to register the situation, but when he starts to feel her tears drench his shirt his fatherly instincts start to kick in. He engulfs her in a warm hold, drawing her close to him.

"It's okay," she whispers, her voice breathy with hiccups. When she doesn't receive a reply, more tears begin to form in her eyes. "Please, tell me everything is going to be okay, dad."

Fighting back some tears of his own, Dean leaves a light kiss on her forehead. "You know, that's the first time you've called me dad since you were little," he shutters, a small smile dancing upon his lips. The sound of the name from her lips fills his heart with warmth. He never really realized how much he missed it until now.

"You've always been worthy of that title," she sniffs, pulling back from his arms to look at him again. "I've just been too busy with other useless things that I've forgotten to tell you how proud I am to be your daughter. Whatever happened in the past in forgotten. Please, just focus on surviving the night and we'll talk about the rest later."

With her words, the sadness in his eyes finally releases, sliding down his pale cheeks. Gently, he brushes some of her hair out of her face, trying to catch a better glimpse of her E/C orbs. They looked bright, the loving light submerging to the surface as she looked at him. It makes Dean smiles despite everything happening around him. It didn't matter now, he could die happily knowing that his daughter had that spark again.

"I don't deserve you," he whispers more to himself than her, but she hears him anyway.

"That's where you've always been wrong, dad," she replies with a warm and kind smile, "You deserve so much more than just me."

As if on cue, the sound of the doors creaking open breaks the family moment apart. Wiping his tears away, Dean pushes Y/N behind him protectively. He then faces the invisible mutt standing about ten feet in front of him. He could hear Y/N start to whimper as the dogs start to bark and snare at him, circling its nervous prey. For a moment, he's worried that they might attack her too, causing Dean to yell at Sam.

"Hellhound," he states sternly, pushing Y/N away from him. She gives very little resistance, but still stays as close to her father as she could.

There's a slight pause in the air, before Sam speaks again, "Where?"

"There," Dean nods in front of him.

Swallowing the dry lump in her throat, Y/N looks from her father to the area in question. Although she could not see the creature as clearly as before, she felt its presence. Its body weaved in and out of her line of vision towards her father in easy strokes. She couldn't really explain why she was able to see them, but that was a mystery for another time. The temperature of the room had dropped drastically, causing everyone's breath, including the dogs, to become visible to the naked eye. They were close, a little too close for her comfort.

"Run," she yells seconds later, her feet acting before her brain as she dashes for the hallway.

She hears a crowd of footsteps following her, making her run faster towards the next room. Swinging the door open, Y/N files in first, along with Sam, Rudy, and Dean in the back. While Sam and Rudy fight to keep the door properly shut, Dean and Y/N begins aligning every entrance with Goofer Dust. At last the dogs seem to scurry away, allowing everyone in the room to catch their breaths.

"Give me the knife. Maybe I can fight them off," Rudy says, breaking the silence.

"What," Sam answers, looking at her with uncertainty.

"Come on," Ruby fights back, her voice rising with urgency. "That dust won't last forever."

Hesitating, Sam twirls knife in his hands looking over at Y/N for guidance. She shakes her head, her heart reluctant to trust a demon, even if Rudy was trying to help. Not liking the answer he had received from her, he looks back down at the weapon.

"Wait," Dean yells, causing everyone's head to snap in his direction. "Sam, that's not Ruby!"

Before Y/N could even begin to understand her father's words, she's watches in horror as her uncle gets flung across the room landing awkwardly against the nearest wall. Next is her father. With a low groan, Dean falls back against the table, it's legs breaking beneath his weight. Laughing a little, the fake Ruby turns towards Y/N. She eyes her like a piece of meat, earning a small gasp from the girl when she realizes it's not Ruby but Lilith standing in front of her.

"Hello, darling," she giggles before pinning the small, frightened girl up against the wall. She yelps out in pain despite all of her instincts telling her not to. The harsh impact of her head slamming against the wall makes her disoriented and frightful. As she stares down the monster, she felt as if she was six years old again. Afraid and vulnerable.

"How long have you been in her," Y/N asks, her voice cracking a bit. Suddenly, Lilith's hold on her frame tightens making it almost impossible to breathe. Tilting her head up, Y/N fights for air; her body beginning to feel like it's drowning, causing her to panic even more.

"You clever little minx," Lilith teases, stepping closer to her. In a few easy strides, she was close enough, that Y/N could feel her steamy breath brush against her neck. The sensation makes her shiver, causing Lilith to chuckle even more. "Not very long. But, I like it. It's all grown up and pretty."

Lilith's eyes suddenly turn ghost white and her rough fingers brush against Y/N's neck. Disgusted, Y/N closes her eyes and turns her head away. But that doesn't stop Lilith from continuing her torment. Soon Y/N begins to feel Lilith's fingernails gently trail her skin, causing her to whimper in terror. It's not long before the right reaction makes Lilith halt her actions; a devilish smile plastering on her lips.

"Don't touch her," Dean threatens, his face stone cold. At first appearance, he doesn't look to be worried, however, on the inside, he's a total mess.

"Oh, Dean! I like your daughter too much. I wouldn't hurt her," Lilith taunts, pulling her attention away from Y/N and stocking over to Dean. He struggles against her power, but in the end, she's too strong. She held all the cards and everyone knew it.

"Well, not too bad," she finishes the last bit of her thought, sending Dean a wink.

He watches hopelessly, as Lilith picks up the forgotten knife and drags it across the base of Y/N's neck. Though she tries her best to muffle the sound of her screams by biting the inside of her cheek, she couldn't stop the sobs from escape her mouth. The pain hit her all a once and with no previous warning, making her weaker with each attack. The jagged edges of the blade sliced her skin causing her to bleed profusely. Tears mingle with her blood as it drips down her body and to the floor. Her body trembling more and more with each hit. It was just one cut after the other until she was eventually seeing black dots in her vision and her throat ran dry from screaming.

"Stop. Please, stop," Dean begs, the sound of his daughter's cries proving to be too much for the fearless hunter. He couldn't bear anymore of it. He'd rather die than watch her suffer.

Rolling her eyes, Lilith ends her fun. Becoming bored, she lets go of Y/N's body, causing her to crumble to the floor. When she doesn't move and her eyes droop from blood loss, both Dean and Sam begin to yell at her. Although she desperately wants to sleep, she listens to the boys pleads to keep her eyes open and locked onto her father. He sends her a strict yet loving gaze, silently telling her to stay awake for him. She nods slightly, giving him an encouraging half smile.

"So, is this your big plan, hun," Dean asks, shifting his focus back to Lilith. "Drag me to hell, kill Sam and Y/N, and then what—become queen bitch?"

"I don't have to answer to puppy chow." Lilith brushes off the sarcasm, knowing it's just Dean's way of delay the inevitable. She turns away from him again, her stare arriving on on his daughter. "You may want to close your eyes for this one, darling."

Her warning sends tremors down Y/N's spine as she watches Lilith slowly walk towards the doors. Her hands ghost over the door handle, making Y/N's heart drop to her stomach. She knew exactly what lied behind those doors and she could do nothing to prevent it from happening. With fresh tears in her eyes, she looks over to her father. He gives her a sad smile accepting defeat before the doors even opened.

"Don't look, babygirl," he mouths to her.

Reluctantly, she obeys his wishes. She shuts her eyes and curls into herself, hoping to block the sound as well.

"Sic him, boys!"

What happens next was all a complete blur. The moment she felt her father's body hit the floor, her mind fell into a daze. All sounds, smells, sites, and feelings when totally numb. What replaced the chaos was a peaceful silence. Soon, curiosity overtakes her senses as she opens her eyes. She expected and prepared herself to see the dead body of her father, but instead she saw nothing but darkness. Lilith, her uncle, her father, the hellhounds, the house; it was all gone. There was nothing for miles, just a deep emptiness.

She couldn't really decide whether her new state of being was actually a blessing or curse. On the one hand, she was saved from having to watch her father die, but now that she was gone, he would have to die alone. Just as the sad thought passed through her mind, a white light begins to cloud the darkness. She didn't really know why, but a feeling of hope bubbled in her chest as she caught a glimpse of the heavenly rays inbetween the cracks of the dark. A voice rang out next. It was deep and powerful, but it did not scare her. It's surprisingly comforting, causing her to unwrapped herself from the fetal position looking towards the entirety of light in awe. Soon the silhouette of a man appears and the outline of what seemed to be his wings beings to glow behind him. The imagine took her breath away and her heart stops for a few moments, almost convincing her that she had died from her injuries.

Only, this wasn't death.

It was an angel, something she only read about in lore and definitely something she didn't really believe in until now.

She tries to speak to it, but the words don't come out. Instead, the figure's voice echoes a whisper. The words are quick and don't make very much sense a first, but she makes the effort to remember them for later. Next comes a question. Although the words are hushed, something in her gut tells her to answer with a yes.

Suddenly, her body exposes with a sense of resilience she's never felt before. Barely having time to comprehend her new strength, she is zapped into the present, her body healing itself before standing to its feet. Despite her ability to see everything, doesn't feel in control. The feeling is uncomfortable, but she willingly gives her full trust to whoever had possessed her.

For a moment, she can hear Lilith scream in protest. "No, you can't be," she cries. She sounds scared, almost terrified.

Without warning, the same white light, accompanied by a high pitched ringing, covers the room. Lilith's shrieks come to a stop and her limp body falls to the ground. The power coursing through Y/N's blood seems to disappear and her mind becomes hers again. Blinking a few times, she trips forward, the rush of energy fleeing her body, leaving her a little muddled. Luckily, she rebounds quickly and is able to scan her surroundings. She eventually comes face to face with Sam. He looks as though he is terrified of her, which makes Y/N crease her eyebrows in confused.

"Sammy," she asks, her voice hitching in her throat as she notices Lilith's vessel beside him, both of her eyes burnt out and smoking. "What happened?"

He was about to answer when a loud gasp cuts him off.

"Y/N? Sam," Dean calls, his body jerking back to life. Wasting no time, both of them make their way over to him. Sam checks for his injuries, but finds none. Thought the circumstances were strange, Y/N didn't take the time to care. She leaped forward, hugging her father. He hugs her back with the same urgency, thankful that they were both alive.

"Y/N, how did you do that," Sam asks in a low voice, grabbing her shoulder's and pulling her away from Dean.

"Sam, what—" Dean tries to intervene, but is shut down by Sam once again.

"Dean, I think she was possessed by an angel," Sam says, looking way too serious for it to be a joke.

Suddenly, every pair of eyes were on her. Bowing her head to avoid their concerned gazes, she tries to piece together the figures words. They repeat over and over again in her head, making her ears pounded in annoyance.

"It's alright, my daughter. Everything is going to be okay."

The sentence echos in her mind, her heart beating loudly as the truth finally hits her. They lied to me. Thought she feels somewhat betrayed by the two men sitting in front of her, she doesn't have the courage to confront them. Instead, she utters a simple name.

Her real father's name.

"Castiel."
