I don't know why I did everything Darry asked, but it felt right. Now I'm sitting in his truck hoping he won't ask any more questions.
I shivered, even though the heat was on.
"Cold?" Darry asked.
I nodded. Never before have I felt so weak or helpless.
Darry reached into the back seat and grabbed a quilt.
"Here." He said, covering me as well as he could with one hand.
"Thanks." I whispered, not trusting my voice.
Darry smiled slightly. He looked mad. He most likely was.
"You hungry?" Darry asked.
I shook my head. "No."
"You don't look like you've eaten anything for awhile." Darry commented worriedly.
"That's because I couldn't hold anything down long enough. I stopped trying to eat." I told him.
"You need at least eat a little bit." Darry commanded.
"Ok." I sighed. "But something really small."
"Ok." Darry smiled. "You and I can split it."
Darry turned up the music a little and I mouthed along with the words.
Darry studied me while I payed attention to the music.
"Did your dad do this too?" He asked, tracing the read palm print on my cheek.
"No. A Soc did that while I was working one day." He already knew too much, might as well tell him everything.
"When?"
"Yesterday."
"Why?"
"Don't know, but now he doesn't have a girlfriend and is banned from the Dingo."
"I really sound like Ponyboy, don't I?"
"Yeah. But that's ok. Pony's a good kid."
"Really?" Darry questioned.
I gave a confused look. "Yeah... Pony understands a lot more than anyone else."
"He's just annoying and asks a lot of questions." Darry sighed.
"That's because he wants to know what's going on in family/friends life. He'll get to know you just enough that he'll know exactly when something is wrong." I explained.
"So...?"
"Yes, Darry, Pony was the first to find out."
