Ayaka

Today is going to be so exhausting. Starting today it's the 43rd Ouran Fair and everyone is busy. We're all working on getting ready for the opening ceremony. I nod and smile as I sign a clipboard and shoo the man away.

"And those go in the central building's main salon, okay?" Kaoru says to the man that walks away from me. He nods in reply. Haruhi sighs and deadpans as she watches the students work. I come over and stand next to her and Kyoya.

"This fair will be the end of me." I say as I massage my temples.

"Uh, aren't school fairs meant to be, I don't know, more about students proudly showcasing unique things they made by hand?" Haruhi questions.

"Perhaps for a mere average school, yes. But, at Ouran, the emphasis is on planning and leadership skills." Kyoya explained and closed his little black book," Keep in mind. Most of our students are being groomed in the position of leadership, so they're required to showcase talent for proper mobility not arts and crafts." He tucks his hand in his pocket.

"Oh..." Haruhi says as she looks up at Kyoya. We hear a horse whine as a carriage comes to a stop next to us.

"Whoa, whoa!" Hikaru says to calm the horses that pull the carriage.

"Nicely done. You handle the reigns like a pro." Takashi complimented Hikaru. Hikaru looked up to him with a happy smile.

"Aya-chan!" Mitsukuni cheered from the carriage.

"Climb on board! We're rehearsing for the big Ouran Fair parade!" Tamaki smiled as he and Mitsukuni stood up. I picked up Haruhi like a child and hoisted her on the carriage and climbed up after and offered a hand to Kyoya. I sat down between Kaoru and Mitsukuni, who smiled up at me. Hikaru urged the horses forward and the carriage carried on.

"Oh wow, it's right out of a fairy tale!" A girl gushed as we rode past. Students watched us as the carriage pulled along.

"How romantic!" A girl blushed.

"Can we have a ride, too?" A girl asked. We smiled and waved to students as we passed.

"Hey, you know, you've gotten pretty good at this." Kaoru complimented his brother. Hikaru looked over his shoulder and smiled happily to his brother.

"There's nothing to it. You should have practiced with me earlier." Hikaru said.

"Well, just because we're twins doesn't make both of us good drivers." Kaoru reminded him.

"It's kind of neat having us all together like this for a carriage ride, huh?" Mitsukuni smiled to all of us.

"Yeah, whatever..." Haruhi deflated as she sat between Kyoya and Tamaki. I smiled at her and knocked our shoes together.

"Oh and for the actual parade tomorrow, we'll all be in 18th century french costumes. Your outfits will be especially opulent, Ayaka and Haruhi." Tamaki said energetically.

"Oh, wonderful..." Haruhi muttered. The school bells started to ring Tamaki looked down at Haruhi.

"Ah, the Fair's Opening Ceremony has started. Let's make this Fair the best one yet!" Tamaki said softly as he looked at Haruhi then to the rest of us. He smiled brightly at me, I smiled back at him starting to get excited. Tamaki looked back down on Haruhi.

"Sounds good to me." Haruhi brightened up.

----

Couples danced as the music played. The violins sounded wonderful. I watched as I welcomed guests into the Central Building Salon. I saw Conoco dancing with her fiance. Kunakano smiled up at the class rep. as he looked away from her blushing. Kasanoda was blushing wildly as he was surrounded by girls. I'm pretty sure I saw some of his goons in the bushes watching him happily. I bowed as a few more people entered the salon.

"Now remember, as part of the Fair, the Host Club will be opened to parents and visitors for the next two days, which means we will need to be even more charming than usual. Let's get out there and show our own guests the time of their lives!" Tamaki's voice rang in my head as I walked away from my post and went to welcome some guests. I adjusted the weird bowtie  we were all wearing and smiled as one of my regulars brought her mother up to me.

"Isn't is just wonderful, mother? This is the host club I've been telling you so much about. What do you think?" I overheard a regular guest speak happily to her mother.

"Well, actually I cannot say I approve of this. I think that these young men just enjoy being fond over." The older woman said stiffly. I smirked as Tamaki butted in.

"You're quite right, madam. We're such shameless selfish creatures. All of this is mere pretense for spending time with lovely young ladies such as yourself. It is our weakness. Forgive me." Tamaki speaks softly to her as he holds her hand gently.

"Oh, what enchanting!" The woman blushed wildly.

"I told you!" Her daughter blushed as well.

"You're too kind, both of you." Tamaki said politely bowing. I smiled as Tamaki walked away from them. The guests excused themselves from me and went on their way. I walked over to Takashi and Mitsukuni. First things I noticed as I walked over was that Takashi's tie was wrong and Mitsukuni's buttons were mismatched. I sighed and stepped in front of Takashi.

"Takashi your tie is wrong. Allow me to fix it." I untie his mess and fix it quickly," All set, now Mitsukuni, your button is mismatched." I kneeled down and fixed it.

"Thank you very much." Mitsukuni thanked me and hugged my waist. I smiled softly to him and Takashi.

"How adorable!" A woman fawned from a table nearby with hearts in her eyes.

"The middle one is so thoughtful." Another woman sighed.

----

"But, you see, our mother and father, both were so busy that they had no time for the two of us." Hikaru said gently as he sat next to Kaoru.

"We played by ourselves, which is the reason we're so lonely now." Kaoru said softly.

"Oh, you poor things." The guests on the couch across from them sympathized as they cried.

"You have gotta be kidding me." I thought as I walked past.

"One of our daily goals here at the host club is to evoke different time periods, so we make it a point to thoroughly research a wide variety of historical traditions in the interest of maintaining authenticity." Kyoya said to a guest's father.

"That's quite impressive." The man responded. I held back a sarcastic snort as I walked past.

----

I sighed as I looked around at everything that was going on. Haruhi was with some of her regulars, the twins were doing the usual, Mitsukuni and Takashi were doing what they do best, and Kyoya was next to me on his laptop typing away.

"This is a bit too much even by our standards. You could buy a small island with all the money we're spending." I note aloud. Tamaki suddenly popped up and put a hand on shoulder.

"What nonsense! That's not the Host Club way at all and you know it. Happiness is above any price tag. Besides, think of all the exposure..." Tamaki said overly happy. I brushed his hand off my shoulder.

"No, Ayaka is right. You have overshot the budget." Kyoya spoke as he typed.

"Kyoya..." Tamaki said worriedly. I looked between the two.

"The use of the salon notwithstanding, you had a period style carriage shipped all the way from France." Kyoya mentioned as he closed his laptop. He pushed up his glasses as he turned in his chair and looked up at Tamaki." Must you always be so capricious? Your impulsiveness overwhelms my accounting skills." Kyoya said lightly as he rested his head on his knuckles. I snickered at his attitude.

"Whatever!" Tamaki raged. I patted his shoulder.

"Calm down boss. You know what they say capriciousness is just another word for creative!" I said joyfully. Tamaki gave me watery puppy dog eyes.

"See Kyoya! Ayaka understands that the whims of the host club king is the stuff of the dreams. No price is too high!" Tamaki says as he tries to grab me for a hug, but I dodge easily and chuckle as Tamaki pouts.

3rd Person POV

"Welcome. Can we get anything for you, maybe, some tea?" Honey suggest. The male takes his gaze away from the Ayaka, Kyoya, and Tamaki and looks right into Honey's eyes as he sits then up to Mori.

"You two are with the host club?" He asked his brown hair shifted into his green eyes.

"Yes, sir." Mori answered.

"Father!" Tamaki said pleasantly surprised. Mori and Honey look to the entrance as see the Chairman of Ouran step into the parlor.

"Do not refer to me as Father. The term is far too familiar. You will address me properly as Chairman." Tamaki's father said firmly. Tamaki bit his tongue and looked at his father harshly.

"Ah, very good welcome, sir. Please let me show you to your seat." Kyoya said trying to ease the tension as he and Ayaka walked up. Ayaka easily looped her arm in Tamaki's and tried to comfort him. Kyoya lead the Chairman away and Ayaka nodded up to Tamaki.

"Thank you. Kyoya my boy, if not for your being here, I'm sure this club would be a shambles. My son must give you no end of trouble." The Chairman spoke politely. The chairman's assistant noticed that Tamaki hung from the chandelier as he watched his father speak.

"Oh, on the contrary, sir. Your son's ambition is what keeps us viable." Kyoya admitted as he bowed slightly," May I bring you anything?" He asked. The chairman motioned Kyoya closer and whispered in his ear.

"Yes, yes, of course. Haruhi, you're needed." Kyoya said as he stood tall again.

"What?!" Tamaki wondered as he let go of the chandelier and fell to the floor. People around him looked at Tamaki. Haruhi excused herself from her table and went to the Chairman.

"So, you're Haruhi Fujioka. Come, sit with me." The Chairman offered Haruhi with a welcoming smile.

"All right. Thank you, sir." She studied the Chairman for a little bit," Nice to meet you, Chairman. I was just thinking earlier that I ought to pay my respects to you a long time ago. I'm so sorry." Haruhi spoke lightly. Tamaki peeked around the statue that was placed behind the couch spewing water.

"You know, Chairman is so dry. Why don't you call me..." The Chairman paused to think then smiles and pulls out a rose,"yes.. Call me your Uncle. It would please me." He said happily. Tamaki fell into the pool where the water was falling from the statue. Haruhi stared at the rose the Chairman offered. From a distance away Ayaka bit her knuckle to keep from laughing out loud.

"Wow, I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all." Ayaka thought.

"I find that I'm just so busy lately that I'm seldom here in person, but I've certainly heard some wonderful things about you." The Chairman spoke.

"Oh why, thank you sir." Haruhi said unsurely. She reached for the rose, but it was pulled away last second and her hand was grabbed by the chairman's.

"Ah, if ever you find yourself in trouble, I want you to know that you can come to your Uncle for anything." The Chairman said as he held Haruhi's hand in both of his and leaned closer to her.

"Okay..." She said bewildered.

"Father!" Tamaki growled as he stood up from the fountain.

"That's Chairman!" Tamaki's father snapped at him.

"What do you think you're doing?! Remove your hands at once, please!" Tamaki shouted at him. Haruhi deadpanned as she looked up at Tamaki.

There was suddenly a loud clap throughout the room, a woman gasped. Ayaka stood up from her spot quickly as she saw what happened. Kyoya's head turned sharply to the left as his father slapped him.

"Kyoya senpai?!" Haruhi said surprised. Ayaka went to Kyoya's side and picked up his glasses for him. She laid his glasses in his hand and he put them back on.

"Is this how my son has been wasting his time?" Kyoya's father asked harshly with his back turned to Kyoya.

"That's Kyo-chan's father, is it?" Honey asked as he stood by Mori by the Chairman's cpot.

"Yes." Mori agreed. Ayaka stood up first and stared at the back of Kyoya's father's head. Kyoya stood tall next to her, stone faced.

"You're an embarrassment to the Otori name." Kyoya's father said and walked away from the two and toward the Chairman,"Suoh, my friend, I'm sorry you had to witness that."

"That did seem rather harsh, given how exceptional he really is. For a man with three fine young sons to carry on his legacy, your avarice would seem to run deep. I've heard about your trouble. Believe me, it's only a matter of time before the media gets wind of it. Please tell me you're not taking it out on your son." The Chairman spoke firmly.

----

"Kyoya, are you alright?" Tamaki asked as the rest of the hosts gathered around him.

"Your dad is so mean!" Hikaru pointed out the obvious. Ayaka stepped back from Kyoya, fuming as she watched Kyoya's father walk away.

"You should never ever hit someone who's wearing glasses." Honey said innocently.

"I don't think it's really about that." Kaoru said flatly.

"Senpai, he wasn't upset with you because of the Host Club, was he?" Haruhi asked suddenly. Tamaki looked at her shocked by her suggestion. Kyoya pushed past the two, bumping Tamaki's shoulder as he past. Ayaka watched him walk away worriedly.

"Don't worry about it. It's not like I haven't been expecting this." Kyoya said calmly as he put his hand in his pocket and gestured airily with his other hand, shrugging it off.

"Because of the Host Club?" Tamaki questioned to himself. Ayaka looked at him sadly.

"Whims have consequences, Tamaki. Take my word for it. They do not come cheaply for people like us. Accept it. Life is hard. It's time for you to grow up and realize that dreaming only postpones the inevitable." Tamaki's father walked past him and spoke facing away from him. Tamaki looked over his shoulder seriously at his father.

"Haruhi!" A girl called. Haruhi trotted away at the guest's call. Tamaki looked her way as she smiled and talked to the guests.

"Start thinking about the future, son. If you plan on becoming head of the Suoh family, there's a long hard road ahead of you. You're going to have to live with the choices you make for the rest of your life. I advise you to think very carefully about what it is you really want, before it's too late." Tamaki's father advise.

The salon door opened, Ayaka looked to the door. She quickly fixed her bow tie and tucked some short black hair behind her ear before she approached the guest at the door.

"Welcome Father. I'm so happy you could make it." Ayaka spoke firmly, she didn't make direct eye contact with him. The hosts looked up as they heard saw Ayaka stand tall and feign confidence.

"So that's Ayaka senpai's father? He looks so intimidating." Haruhi said to the hosts. The twins nodded as they stood closer to each other. Mori noticed how Ayaka's hands shook slightly as she stood in her father's presence.

"I hate that man." Honey whispered harshly as he held Usa-chan tighter with shaded eyes.

"What are you doing here Ayaka?" Mr.Yamaguchi asked harshly.

"This is the club I joined while you were in America, The Host Club." Ayaka explained raising her head and folding her hands behind her back.

"I remember specifically telling you to work on your martial arts while I was gone." He said harshly.

"I have Father. Everyday I've practiced hard, pushing my-" Ayaka said, but was cut off.

"Jaune, come over here son." Ayaka's father said politely. The brown haired green eyed boy that Mori and Honey were serving before stood from his spot and walked toward Ayaka and her father.

"Hey, we were just..." Honey said in small voice.

"What?" The twins ask looking at Honey. As Jaune walked toward Ayaka he tucked a hand in his pocket and ran a hand through his brown hair.

"For the remainder of the day and tomorrow, you will be Jaune's personal escort." Ayaka looked up at the guy.

"He's as tall as Takashi." Ayaka thought as she scanned his green eyes.

"Hello there, Ayaka." Jaune said smugly.

" What's wrong? I gave you an order." Ayaka's father asked harshly.

"Very well, Father. I will do everything in my power to ensure his happiness just as you wish." Ayaka said softly forcing a smile. The hosts watched shocked.

----

"Aya-chan isn't coming back, is she?" Honey asked as he sat at a table surrounded by Mori and the twins.

"So, does she really plan to spend..." Hikaru began.

"The entire fair escorting some stranger?" Kaoru finished as they leaned on each other.

"Jaune, right? Or something like that." Hikaru said boredly.

"Who is he to her? That's the mystery." Kaoru leaned his head on his hand as he leaned his elbow on the table.

"I can tell you." Renge suddenly spoke up as she walked toward the hosts. The twins looked her way.

"Oh, Renge." They said surprised.

"Jaune Tonnerre, he's the youngest son of the renown French Tonnerre family. They descend from royalty." Renge explained.

"Indeed. The family has quite a history. Their wealth is something of a legend among financial heavyweights. In fact, just being associated with them makes you part of a very elite group. They also own Grand Tonnerre, a firm that's been buying up a lot of businesses in Japan lately. Of course, that doesn't explain why he has come here to visit Ayaka." Kyoya said as he types at his laptop.

----

They were quiet as the boat moved. Ayaka crossed her legs and folded her hands together in her lap.

"Isn't this charming? A picturesque gondola ride and artists' showcase all in one and everything you see here was created by members of the Ouran art club." Ayaka explained quietly as the water splashed as the man rowed.

"How pedestrian. Clearly, the work of novices." Jaune said boredly and he leaned his head on his fist. Ayaka growled inwardly.

"That was a bit harsh. What would you have me do? The students put a lot of hard work into these pieces. But you can go somewhere else if you like." Ayaka said lightly. Jaune shifted in his spot and looked at Ayaka.

"Ayaka, I would like to hear you sing." Ayaka gave him a side glance,"For me." He said in a whisper.

----

Mori tightened his tie as he finished changing. Honey had finished changing before him and had left with the others before hand.

"In here?" A male's voice asked as the door to the club room opened.

"It is a music room, after all." Ayaka responded. Mori's eyes widened when he heard Ayaka's voice. He listened carefully as the piano started to play and he heard soft humming then a few words tumble harmonically. Mori leaned his back against the door and listened.

Ayaka's song winded down and she stopped singing, but continued playing.

"So, this is the room where you and that precious little host club of your's hold court, isn't it? I must admit it was impressive seeing you all action earlier. You must be very close." Jaune said smugly.

"Naturally. You know what they say a family that plays together stays together." Ayaka said happily.

"Family. What a sentimental notion. I believe here in Japan, they refer to it as playing house. You are so whimsical, Ayaka. I bet that they fall over themselves trying to keep up with you. Especially, that one with the glasses, the one that got slapped by his father." Jaune said with a smirk. Ayaka's fingers stopped moving as the memory played in her head. She stared in shock at the keys of the piano. Horrible thoughts tore at her mind.

"It was my fault Kyoya got hurt. I couldn't get there in time. I wasn't quick enough to protect him...to help him... to help them..." Ayaka's fingers shook as they hovered above the keys. The handle for the door turned. Jaune turned on the couch and looked at the door.

"Who is it?" He asked loudly. Mori opened the door and stepped into the room.

"Oh, Takashi? What are you doing here?" Ayaka asked as she stood up, quickly.

"I just came back to change outfits. Tamaki was the one who wanted us to change costumes at least three times a day." Mori said lightly and Ayaka couldn't help but chuckle at his comment," Look, everyone is worried about you for disappearing on us like that. You should've told us." Mori said seriously as he stopped by the door.

"My apologies. I'm afraid she belongs to me for the time being. Forgive me for asking, but do I detect a little jealousy?" Jaune purred over the back of the couch with a smug smirk. Ayaka glared at the back of his head and balled her hands up. Mori eyes widened for a second before they returned to normal.

"Sorry, but no. I guess I'll be leaving now. Some of us have work to do." Mori said lightly and stepped out the door.

"Hey, wait a second. Takashi!" Ayaka ran past the couch to the door as she called for Mori. Jaune moved quickly and grabbed Ayaka's wrist.

"Please, you can't possibly be interested in an idiot like that." Jaune said coldly.

"Excuse me, but I would really appreciate it if you didn't call my family names!" Ayaka snapped. Jaune smirked.

"Your family..." Jaune ran his fingers over the back of Ayaka's hand," They're not real family, Ayaka. So stop playing house." Jaune said turning serious. His hands gripped Ayaka's shoulders and he pulled her onto the couch on his lap.

"What are you doing?!" She asked loudly.

"Wouldn't you prefer the real thing? Because I can give it to you, you know." Jaune whispered as he brushed his thumb across Ayaka's jaw to her ear.

----

Mori walked into the salon and ignored the female guests that blushed as they looked at him. He walked over to the rest of the hosts with a solemn face.

"Takashi looks great!" Honey said happily as he observed his friend.

"Not bad. So, where did Ayaka senpai go?" Hikaru asked.

"She was really looking forward to this." Kaoru remembered.

"Ayaka's in Music Room 3. She's entertaining Lord Tonnerre." Mori told them.

"Well, there's nothing we can do about her obeying her father's whims." Tamaki sighed.

"Um, you know, now that I think about it, Ayaka senpai's father seemed really cold toward her earlier. Is there some special reason for that?" Haruhi asked suddenly. The hosts looked at one another unsurely.

"Well, everyone else knows about it." Hikaru said softly.

"You see Ayaka senpai's mother died her last year of elementary school." Kaoru said out right. Haruhi looked at them surprised.

"Senpai's mother was a big time movie star so everyone knew of her passing immediately. Being the only child to her parents Ayaka took her mother's passing harshly, blaming herself." Hikaru explained softly.

"That's why she's always concerned about us getting hurt." Honey added.

"Because Ayaka's father worked all over the world she was raised only by servants of her family. Ayaka's father didn't take his wife's passing well and became strict on Ayaka's discipline and upbringing. Of course she was already working on her martial arts skills by this time, but her father pushed her harder to succeed more." Kyoya suddenly spoke up as he typed at his laptop.

"Wow..." Haruhi said surprised.

"But being the only child of the Yamaguchi family does not guarantee Ayaka her father's company either. Her father has always dangled the company just above her reach. So she always put more pressure on herself to succeed in dimming hope that her father might see she has what it takes to take over her father's place. She's always wanted to carry on her father's company in her mother's name." Honey added as he sat on the couch with Usa-chan in his lap. Haruhi sat on the edge of the fountain with a sad look on her face with her hands together in her lap.

"I had no idea. She always seems so cheerful. Who would have ever guessed? If I were in senpai's shoes, I don't know that I could forgive my father for something like that." Haruhi thought as her hands tightened in her lap.

"It's easy to feel sorry for her, but the hardships she's endured helped mold her into the person she is today. She'll be fine. The host club is her refuge, which means when it's all said and done, she still has us." Tamaki encouraged Haruhi as he stood up from the couch he was sitting on. He smiled fondly. Haruhi looked to all of the hosts as they smiled at her. Haruhi returned the smile.

Suddenly the doors to the salon opened and there stood two silhouettes.

"Aya-chan!" Honey said happily. Every host turned their attention to the two at the door.

"Everyone, I have an important announcement. As of today, Lord Jaune Tonnerre and I are officially engaged. Furthermore, I will be retiring from the host club after the fair is over. That is all." Ayaka said calmly.
