-Chapter 12-1 -

The days passed quickly, and before I knew, the day of the party dawned on me. It was a Saturday afternoon, which leaves me around four hours from now to prepare. Alexander offered me a ride to Mrs. Tracy house, which I had no other option but to accept it. Well, that includes Jarrell inside the ride package as well. He was going with us.

Currently, I was panicking in my room trying to find a suitable outfit to wear for the party. But I only had long baggy jeans and sweatshirts, which I don't think any of those were acceptable in the dress code if they even have one. I thought to myself that this is only a farewell party, but I'm afraid that my stereotypes of parties were the disco balls hanging from the ceiling.

I'm being trying out grinding and other dance moves in front of the mirror these past few days in preparation for the party. I know, there's going to be a teacher in there, nothing with dancing and the alcohol. But, just in case, I might having to do a dare or something? I want to look good, in front of my crush especially and I'm admitting it honestly that my end product was up to a professional standard.

Forget about all the dancing, if I wanted to go for the party, I would have to have a proper outfit at least. Digging my bag, I suddenly thought of the corsets in the drawer. There would be no way I would wear that to the party, over my dead body. I've tried calling Joanne for the past hour and so far she have not returned any of my calls. Quite frustrating, but she was my only hope. Furthermore, she was the one who wanted me to go the party right? Sure she would do something.

"Come on, Jo, pick up the goddamn phone!" I shouted impatiently.

"Yes, who is this?" She finally picked up the phone after donkey years.

"Jo I need you to come over, like right now." I ignored her question and went straight to the point.

"I bet you don't have anything decent to wear right?" She was right. I could visualise her face forming a teasing smile, as I felt my cheeks flushing red in embarrassment. Decent not meaning dirty, but decent as in proper clothes. The clothes I have aren't suitable under the proper category.

"Yeah..." I replied softly, not sure if she could hear it. But I guess she did, as I heard her chuckling over the phone.

"I'll be there in ten minutes." She said and hung up.

---------^^-----------

"I think I'll just wear my jeans and shirt there. Forget it." I sighed in dismay.

Joanne finally came to Alex's house much to my excitement, and ever since she came I've been going in and out of the toilet changing the clothes to match her standards. The dresses she brought were all branded and gorgeous, but they were too revealing and short to suit my taste. The shoes were another problem to even start complaining.

Killer inches heels, who would actually be able to walk in those? I know that wearing them could have made me shot up a few inches, but sorry,  I ain't gonna wear something I can't walk in. Pretty, I'll have to look pretty in front of Jarrell, I told myself that over and over again. But I can't resist the urge to rip the dress off every time I tried wearing it. It was too short I felt like I was wearing nothing but my underwear.

"Rainie, this is the last dress I brought. I think the pink one suits you more." She said in disappointment, rummaging her bag and taking out a piece of emerald blue sleeveless dress. And that was the exact dress I had it perfectly in my mind. Why didn't she take it out early? Geez, if she had showed this early I wouldn't have to trouble myself in making so many trips to the toilet.

"Jo, why didn't you take this out earlier? I want this." I smiled widely at her.

"I knew it, I knew you would have chosen this over others." She pouted at me sadly.

"What?" I asked.

"I want you to wear something sexier and short, you should try something new." She said. Glaring at me, she added on, "Don't think I don't know your taste Missy? You'll probably just grab the longest one out of all the dresses. I brought this just in case you didn't want to listen to me no matter how I bugged you. Looks like my plan failed."

"Jo, you're the only one that knows me well." I chuckled and gave her a side-hug, before rushing into the toilet.

------------^^------------

"I'd still prefer you wearing the pink one. It suits you better." She folded her arm and gave me an unsatisfied look when I came out of the toilet with the blue dress on.

Eyeing me from head to toe, she shook her head in discontent and said, "Forget it. Let's move on to the shoes."

Time flew quickly and it was already five. I had firmly chosen to wear the shortest heel to go with the dress, despite the strongly disapproved Joanne. I knew she meant well for me, but I felt that it's better if I chose the more comfy one for me. Deciding against curling my hair, Joanne put a slight make-up for me so I wouldn't look like a zombie. And then we're done and off to go.

The emerald blue dress ran down to three quarters of my thighs, which were way better than the rest which the length only hit the top of my thighs. It was sleeveless, revealing my bare arms. If you're thinking how I would look like with the make-up and dress, let me inform you in advance not to get your hopes too high that I would turn into a Cinderella after a few hours. I was still the same old Rainie, the same person you called the nerd.

As for my spectacles, Jo had it exchanged with contacts. At first, my vision turned blur for a second I thought I was going to turn blind, but Jo reassured me it was readjusting the lighting. I was still recognisable, don't exaggerate. It wasn't a total makeover for me.

Going down the stairs slowly, I practised walking with the heels on. Even though they were the shortest heels among the rest, I couldn't help but grabbed the railing of the stairway tightly as I headed down. It was the first time for me as a nerd, sure an amateur at partying would be forgiven for being so nervous.

"Don't worry, Rainie." Joanne patted my shoulder to ease the tension in me. She wore the shorter version of my blue dress, the length reaching to the top of the thighs. With the dress being strapless, she allowed her curly hair to drop down to her shoulders covering her bare shoulders. Her dress made her looked seductive and she looked as gorgeous as the last time we went to the mall.

"Sup Rainie, looking good for a nerd. " Alexander grinned at me, as I blushed in embarrassment when I remembered the last time he trying teasing me with the lingerie. "Why is Joanne here?" He cocked his head to look at Joanne walking behind me.

"I helped her dress up." She said proudly. "I'll need a ride though."

Alexander agreed without hesitation as we walked towards the exit. Wondering where the hell was Jarrell, I looked around the living room and spotted him coming out from the kitchen. As I turned to face him, I started checking out his overload biceps that were worthy of drools hidden behind his navy blue casual shirt. Wearing a khaki pants, he looked strikingly sexy in addition to his smirk hanging on his face.

"Just admit it. I'm hot, aren't I?" He said airily. Being the narcissistic jerk, admiring himself was strictly permitted because what he said wasn't just his opinions; it was an unanimously fact.

Gulping nervously, I put on my deadly glare as always, quickening my pace towards the door despite having the heels on. But I assumed the glare didn't gave him any goosebumps, because my blush was starting to form at the same time. Suddenly, I tripped over my legs and found them tangled into an unbreakable twist. My face was approaching the ground at a rapid speed with the only hope that Jarrell would come and save me.

Just as I was mentally calling Jarrell for help, a strong arm reached out to my waist and pulled me back to my feet. Without looking back I knew that my life savior was Jarrell. Blushing, I thanked him to which he replied, "It takes skill to trip over your leg. Be safe, princess."Just his reply made my cheeks blushed even harder to an almost tomato-red again. I finally figured out why Joanne didn't put any blusher on my cheeks.

--------^^--------

Take me by the tongue and I'll know you,

Kiss me till you're drunk and I'll show you,

All the moves like jagger,

I've got the moves like jagger,

I've got the moooves like jag-ger.

I mouthed the lyrics to myself as I heard Maroon 5's Moves like Jaggers heating up the party's atmosphere. Good taste in choosing songs, I mentally complimented Mrs. Tracy as we made our way to her house.

"Hello my students!" She sang in a high-pitched voice and smiling from ear-to-ear.

"Hi Mrs. Tracy." The four of us greeted simultaneously. As we entered the house, I could say from far it looked enormously big. I wasn't surprised when she told us that she had a large backyard where all her students were gathered around there. After letting us off our own, the four of us separate while Joanne and I headed for some drinks.

On the way to the kitchen counter, I could hear people gossiping about me. They were giving me weird glances and moving to their clique to spread the news of my presence. I had already expected it coming, so I shrugged it off and quickened my steps towards the counter. My heart sank like a downwards slope, but I told myself I shouldn't let them ruin my mood. Joanne could probably sense them looking at me and talking behind my back as I saw her sending deadly glares to them.

"Woah, what is she doing here?"I lifted up my head to see Penelope and her clique sneering at me.

"Enjoying a party, now leave us alone." Joanne snapped at her as I saw her flinched slightly. I didn't know Joanne held such great authority to make her to feel scared. Once again, I felt myself counted lucky for having a best friend like Joanne.

"I'm not talking to you, bitch. Don't butt in." She snapped back, and I know this wasn't going to have a nice ending if she tries flaring Joanne up. Especially when she stands up for me, she doesn't think twice in throwing punches.

"Leave Rainie alone. Right now before I slap you." Joanne snarled.

"Too bad these threats don't work on me." She smirked and tossed her hair in an arrogant manner.

Before I could even try to calm Joanne down, she stomped towards Penelope and sent a slap onto her face. I immediately ran towards Joanne to pull her away before things get worst - but it was too late. Penelope pulled her hair as both of them rolled on the floor and clawed each other's faces. They looked like they were about to devour each other anytime sooner, as I wrapped my hands around Joanne's waist and tried to pull her off.

"Stop it, you two!" I heard Mrs. Tracy's voice boomed and saw as Penelope immediately took her hands off Joanne's hair. Without bothering to find out what happened, she instantly figured out that it was Penelope who started the incident. "Leave, Penelope. This is my house, and I ask you to leave." She ordered sternly.

"Mrs. Tracy, she started it first-

"Cut it out, Pen." Jarrell entered the scene and cut off Penelope's sentence. Penelope's face fell when she heard Jarrell's voice. Apologizing to Mrs. Tracy for the unnecessary commotion, he grabbed Penelope by her wrist and dragged her off. Everything went back to normal again as I helped Joanne up. I couldn't help but feel sorry for her when I saw the little scratch marks on her face, the incident happened because of me. Maybe I shouldn't have even came here.

"If you feeling sorry, don't. I didn't do this because you're my best friend, Rainie. I did it because she's pissing me off and crossing my limits. So don't feel apologetic alright?" She smiled at me as I gave her a hug.

"Aww." I felt my lips lifting upwards forming into a big wide smile.

"I'm go to the toilet to wash up. I'll meet you later. Now that I've gotten rid the party poopers, it's your turn to enjoy the party. Have fun!" She grinned at me and said.

"Thanks Jo. Love you." I gave her another quick hug before she left.

Feeling a sudden spurt of happiness, I took a can of Coke and drank it to ease my thirst. Holding the Coke in my hand, I headed to the backyard to take a look. Hearing Moves Like Jagger song no longer being played, I pouted sadly as I waited for another song.

Suddenly, I felt a tap behind my shoulder. Turning behind, I saw Alden grinning at me.

"Hi Alden! Been long since we talked." I smiled.

"So you heeded my advice huh." His grin changed into his signature smirk. Realising that he was talking about my glasses, I nodded my head in embarrassment.

"Can I talk to you for a bit?" He asked.

"Sure," I nodded my head as I followed him to a quieter place.
