As I rode on my horse I thought of my entire life's purpose. It's always been to kill and become commander, but at the same time protect Lexa.
When Lincoln found me, my purpose was to protect him, and maybe find my way back to my sister.
Now I could only fulfill one of those purposes. Protect Lincoln.
Years earlier at the conclave.
"Master, what is that?" Alec, one of the boys in my novitiate class asked as he pointed to dust escaping the tower.
We all looked to Titus expecting an answer and his face fell, "Novitiates, you've been training your entire life for this. Our beloved commander has fallen, let the conclave begin."
All 9 of us looked at each other, we were terrified, out of the 9 that stood, only 1 would survive.
——————————————
We all were in the worgeda , barely lit by candles. Everyone had their master in front of them, advising them. I had Indra and I looked over to see Lexa paying close attention to Anya.
"Hey, you need to focus. This is the most important moment of your life Bela. Love has no place here." Indra snapped at me.
I immediately turned my attention back to her, "What more could you teach me Indra?"
"There is always something to be learned." Indra explained.
"Tonight you fight with honor, for your people." She added.
I looked at Indra and gave her a firm nodded. I was shaking because of how nervous I was, I wasn't scared to lose my life, I was afraid I'd win. I'd have to kill friends just to survive.
I felt Indras arms hold me firmly as she stopped my shaking.
Once I stopped Indra looked at me and handed me my mother's sword. I smiled as I looked down at the beautiful design the blade had on it, my smile faded as I realized this would soon be filled with blood that wasn't my own.
"Bela Kom Trikru. Step to your flag." I heard from the outside.
"No matter what happens, I'm proud to call you my second." Indra said as she pulled me in for a bear hug. I returned it.
"Thank you." I said before turning my back on her and walking outside.
As I walked out of the dark and the sunlight hit my face I heard cheering from the crowd.
I ignored it as I found my place under a building.
"Lexa Kom Trikru. Step to your flag.
"Luna Kom Flokru. Step to your flag."
"Eden Kom Louwada Klironkru. Step to your flag."
Names kept being called out until a few minutes later all 9 of us found each other standing under different buildings.
Once the horn was sounded loudly some ran away trying to stay as far from the fight and others ran towards each other in the middle. Prepared for the bloodbath.
I was among those who ran to the middle. I ran to a girl named eve as she ran towards me.
As she jumped in the air prepared to slice me in half I side stepped out of the way causing her to fall on the ground. As she turned on her back I aimed my sword at her throat but she rolled from underneath me.
She got up and began trying to hurt me in every way possible but she revealed every one of her moves allowing me to block them.
Once I realized she was becoming tired I ripped her sword out of her hands with my own sword and without blinking I prepared for my final move.
One second she was alive and fighting and the next her head sat inches away from her body.
I took the sigil that had fallen to the side, smeared with black blood, and put it around my neck, my first kill.
As I looked around, there was no one left, I spotted Alec from a corner, he looked horrified at the scenery that stood in front of him, I couldn't blame him.
I decided to run after him but was stopped as I heard my name being called behind me.
I turned around to see 2 boys standing next to each other. They'd teamed up against me.
"Yu gonplei ste odon Bela Kom Trikru." The boy on the left said as he spun his sword in hands.
I did the same as I began walking towards them, "Not yet."
I picked up the sword of Eve who I'd just killed and used one to defend me from the boy on my right and the other to attack the boy on my left. As I backed up away from the middle I focused on the boy on my left and managed to slice through his leg.
The boy on my right was now in the air and I saw him midair with a large hammer ready to kill me but I managed to move in time and saw his hammer go straight through the head of the boy I'd just cut.
I picked up my sword and ignored what just happened. I couldn't get distracted, not now, so I picked up my sword right after kicking the hammer out of the remaining boys hand. He took a sword from the ground, at this point I didn't even know who it belonged too, all I knew was that it's owner was dead.
Once the boy had the sword he aimed for my stomach but I managed to block his move and took the time to jab him in the face. His nose began bleeding but that didn't stop him. He ran at me and made me drop my sword as he kicked me in the stomach.I picked up my sword and barely blocked him as he aimed for my chest.
He was too strong as I began to crouch beneath him. I put my hand on the end of his blade as I tried to stop him but it wasn't enough.
My hand began bleeding as the boy began to put more pressure on the sword. I had an idea, but I'd have to wait until last second.
Out of nowhere i saw the end of a metal sword shine through the boys chest. His blood splattered on me right before the sword left his body. As he fell in the ground, lifeless, I got up and prepared to fight whoever was behind him.
"Hey relax, I just saved your life." Lunas brother said as he put his hands up in defense.
"I didn't need saving." I answered, "why are you here, I'm supposed to kill you?"
"Those two gained up on you, other kids are making allies, I say we do the same." He explained.
"Where's your sister." I asked him.
"Where's yours?" He answered defensively.
"Ok fine, truce." I said as I extended my hand for him to shake on it.
"Good, I'll find Luna, tell her what's up, you find Lex ok." He explained his plan.
"Got it, see you later." I said before I ran off to find my little sister.
As I entered a small room full of crates and garbage I saw the blonde girl who I hated fighting my sister.
She was gaining on her until the girl kicked the sword out of my sister hand and raised her sword ready to kill Lexa.
I jumped out of hiding and stabbed the girl through the heart as I landed. "Yu gonplei ste odon bitch." I said as I took out my sword and she fell to the ground.
"I know you didn't like her but at least have some respect, she's dead." Lexa defended the girl.
"She's dead, finally she doesn't have any smart comments to return." I joked trying to lift Lexas spirits. She only got defensive when she was scared or nervous.
As I ran to Lexa she held up her sword in defenisve but I managed to get it out of her hand and then I let go of mine and hugged her tightly.
Lexa wasn't so tense anymore as she hugged me back.
When I pulled away I saw she was confused.
"I won't kill you Lex." I said as I went to get my sword.
"But there's only one flame." Lexa inferred.
"But that doesn't mean there can only be one survivor, I'm leaving." I explained to her.
"Wait no, you can't leave me, I can't be the commander." Lexa complained, I turned back to look at her, she was more scared then ever but I couldn't kill her.
"Look at me, you are strong Lexa, if anyone can lead these people, it's you." I said as I held her face wiping away some blood from her eyebrow.
"You're all I have left."she added as a single tear trickled down her face.
"You're all I have left too, and that's why I can't kill you." I looked at the ring that Luna had made for us ages ago when my mother died. I took her hand and spinned the ring on her finger.
"Always and forever, I'll always be with you." And that's the last thing I said before leaving my sister to finish off this fight. As I made it to the doors of polis I had to be careful, I couldn't let any scouts find me.
A hand covered my mouth and pulled me into a corner, I struggled but the person was too strong.
When they let go I turned around to see my best friend covered in blood.
"Luna? Where's your brother he said he'd catch you up on what we were doing." I told her.
"He's dead, I killed him." She answered numbly. My heart broke for her, and for me, another friend dead.
"What are you doing?" I asked her, realizing that she wasn't fighting anyone else. It was only Luna Lexa and I alive now.
"I knew you wouldn't kill your sister, neither will I. I'm leaving and I want you to come with me." Luna suggested.
I intended on leaving as well but if we left together it'd be even more dangerous.
"I can't, it's too risky." I explained.
Luna looked at me understandingly and smiled.
"I'm going home." Luna added, "where will you go?"
"Im not sure, but it'll be far from here." I told her.
She took off her ring that looked exactly like mine and put it in my hands.
"When we find each other again, which we will, you give it to me, and I want it clean." She said with her eyes welling up with tears.
I nodded as I put it on.
"Ste yuj(stay strong)." I said to her before walking away.
A few weeks later
I'd been alone for a few weeks now. Lexa became the commander and it's been the news everywhere. I've been living in the woods between villages trying to survive.
I found a rabbit but once I saw it an arrow hit it from afar.
"I'm sorry was that yours?" A teenager asked sarcastically as he came out of hiding.
"You're the commanders sister aren't you?" He asked seriously this time.
I grabbed him and put my blade to his throat, taking no chances in getting caught.
"Hey listen, I want to help you."he said quickly as he struggled, "Luna sent me."
At my best friends name I let him go.
"Ai laik lincoln. Al nou na bash yo op(I am Lincoln, I mean you no harm)" he explained as he caught his breath.
"How do you know Luna?" I asked in English.
"She's my friend, if she trusts you, I do as well, I want to help you." Lincoln said gently.
I looked at him hesitantly.
"You could use some food and shelter, I can give that to you, just come with me." Lincoln said as he began to walk north.
I decided to go with him, if anything happened, I could save my self.
2 years after Bela was found by Lincoln.
"Hunting parties have been out more, it's not safe for you to go out there." Lincoln said as he prepared the bit of fish we had.
"I know but Lincoln, I can help, I'll be careful." I complained.
"I will not let anything bad happen to you, do you understand."Lincoln said seriously as he looked me in the eyes.
He'd left his family for me, we'd been hiding in a cave that was miles from polis. I had to be thankful.
"We'll take care of food tomorrow, tonight get some sleep." Lincoln said as he picked up the plates.
I began to get ready for bed and laid down.
"I love you linc, goodnight." I said as I looked at him.
There was silent for a moment, I could only hear the trees moving outside. This was the first time I let Lincoln know how much I cared for him.
"I love you too bel." Lincoln answered after a while.
I had finally found my place, a place where I belonged, I didn't have to be the protector anymore, with Lincoln I could be the protected.
Lincoln was my brother, he made me feel like I wasn't alone, and I never would be as long as I had him.
Back to current time.
As I got off my horse about a few meters from Arkadia I saw Octavia getting ready to go through the tunnels.
"Bel, what are you doing? You were supposed to stay with Bellamy." Octavia argued as she saw me walk up to her.
"Lexas dead. I'm making sure my brother comes home." I answered her. She looked at me with pity but I looked away. I couldn't stand people who pitied me.
"I assume you have a plan to get him out?" I asked Octavia as I got inside the tunnels.
"Yes I do."
