"What a shame," Daryl sighed staring over the fence into the prison grounds, "It's completely overrun with walkers."
Rick climbed the fence to reach him,
"How many you think are in there?"
"Hundreds, give or take afew," Daryl answered.
"We can take them out," Rick nodded, "If we start in the front field and make our way slowly to the rest of the prison we can do it."

Daryl shook his head,
"Don't you think it's a bit too big of a risk? I mean what if Lori got bit..." Rick cut him off,
"Daryl we've been searching for months, I'd rather try this and die than survive out in the woods with walkers for another minute."

Daryl sighed once again,
"I guess we'll give it a go then."

The rest of the group crowded around the fence and Carl handed some cable cutters to Rick.
"Everyone get weapons out," Rick ordered, "Once I cut this fence they are all gonna come at us, you need to be ready."
Everyone nodded and Rick quickly cut the fence.

"Everyone in!" he called as the group crawled through the hole he had cut, immediately they started taking out the walkers one by one. Stabbing them through the skull with knives, poles, machetes, anything they could pick up.

Daryl tied up the hole in the fence with rope so that no more walkers could spill in and kill them in their sleep.

Eventually, in the course of about half an hour, the front field of the prison was taken out and they were left with a walker free piece of land surrounded by high fences.

"It's perfect," Carol said, "It's an amazing place to bring up a child." She looked at Lori who smiled.
"Judith can be born here," Lori said, all the worries leaving her mind.

"I'll make a fire," Glenn said, "We can sleep in the field tonight, then tomorrow we can clear the rest of the prison... soon we'll have the whole place to ourselves."
Everyone smiled at the thought of finally being under a roof again, in a bed, without having to worry about a walker eating you alive.

Daryl went back outside the prison to hunt, he came back afew hours later with two squirrels and logs for the fire.
"Yum," Carl said, slightly sarcastically, and the group chuckled.
"I'm happy here," Katelyn said looking at Tom, "I think we could really make this place the start of something great."

"I see potential too," Isla agreed, "I see a future here."
The group finished their meal and Maggie and Glenn climbed the prison tower to take night watch. They also called dibs on sleeping up there which made Daryl a bit annoyed because he had his heart set on making it his home.

"We can grow crops in this field," Rick said, "We could also breed animals."
"Squirrels?" Daryl laughed and Rick put his face in his hands,
"No Daryl, not squirrels."

Carol brought the blankets in from the car and everyone set up beds around the fire. It was a beautiful night of hope and a new beginning. Hopefully the prison would stay that way- and be an amazing home where maybe they could start to bring the world back to life.

Isla started to sing the parting glass. Maggie joined in.
Soon the whole group were singing the beautiful song together in harmony.

This was a new beginning.

Andreas point of view
I didn't stop, I just ran.
I ran through the woods shooting only the walkers that got less than a meter close to me- so as to not waste bullets.

My legs burnt and I had a pain in my stomach that was so unbearable because of the lack of energy I now had.
I was slowing down.
Walkers were getting closer but I didn't stop.
I didn't even look back.
I had to loose them all.
I had to survive.

Suddenly I tripped on a branch and came tumbling down hitting my head hard on a rock in front of me.
My vision blurred and my eyes slowly closed as I blacked out.

But I could just make out three figures in front of me... and one was a woman.
The other two were zombies, with their arms and jaws cut off attached to a chain around her waist. They weren't snapping at her, they just stood their... almost like pets.

The woman had a katana, and she slaughtered every zombie that got close to me with no struggle at all.
She was built for this world.
I could tell.
Soon she had killed every single walker around us and she stood there with her good covering her face and her katana out,
Staring directly at me.

I didn't feel a thing, it was a quick death, I felt no pain... nothing.
Everything just went black.
And I realised in that last second of my life that the world had no mercy anymore, we were done for, and how we used that knowledge was our choice.

Back at the prison/nobody's point of view
The sun rose, Daryl was awake first of course.
He went hunting for breakfast and would you guess- all he found was squirrels.
When everyone was up, they ate their beautiful squirrel breakfast and sharpened their weapons.

Today was the day.

Today was the day they made history.

Today was the day they cleared out the whole prison and started a shiny new life here.

"What do you think Lori's baby is?" Andy asked Isla,
"I don't know really, Lori says she can feel it's a girl and she's the mother so I guess a girl."
"Same," Andy nodded, "God I can't imagine a baby in the group, it's gonna be chaos that's for sure." He laughed.

"Right everyone, me and Daryl have decided we are going to start in the cell block one first!" Rick shouted, "Once we have cleared out cell block one, we will move to the cafeteria and so on!"

Everyone shouted 'Yes!' back and Rick nodded in pride.
"We will beat this world." Rick whispered under his breath.

Andreas point of view
I opened my eyes.
A cool breeze brushed over my forehead from an open window beside me.
I wasn't dead.
Why wasn't I dead?

My arms were tied up together in a big knot of rope and I sat up.
"Take it easy," a voice said, and I froze,
"Who's there?" I yelped as a sting on pain came from my forehead, must've been when I hit it on that rock.

The women looked kind, she had long braids and a bandana wrapped around her head.

"I'm Michonne," she smiled.

Nobody's point of view
Two hours passed and the group were moving fast.
They managed to take out cell block one easily and so they moved on to the cafeteria.
There were a couple close calls, Isla got pinned up against a wall by a walker and it was inches away from taking a big chunk out of her neck.

Katelyn also almost got bitten on the arm but Tom managed to shoot the walker just in time.

By the end of the day the whole prison was empty of walkers, and the group all had a small party to celebrate.
Rick did a speech:

"We finally did it, after a winter of suffering in cold, depressing conditions we did it.
We showed the world that we are survivors, and we do not stop until we find sanctuary. I am so, so grateful to be sharing this moment with you all. In years to come when people are learning about this apocalypse in history lessons- our names will be there. Our names will be there at the very top of the page, because we started something amazing right here at this prison... we restarted the world."

Everyone cheered and Lori got up to hug her husband.
History- that's what this was, and these amazing people were all part of it.
