" Good morning to you birthday girl!" Niall exclaims. Melody was standing in her cot smiling at Niall.
" Dada!" Melody exclaims. She lifts her arms up for Niall. Niall picks her up out of her cot. He walks to her changing table and changes her nappy. He picks out a birthday outfit for Melody and slips it on her. He sits her up. He grabs a brush and brushes her hair into pigtails. He looks at her when she's all ready.
" Lets go show the boys your birthday outfit." Niall says. Melody nods her head. Niall picks her up and walks out of her room. He walks downstairs where the boys were setting up for Melody's first birthday party today.
" Look who's here!" Niall says. The boys turn and smile at Melody.
" There's my birthday girl!"
" Happy birthday Melody!"
Melody uses her hands to cover her face. Niall smiles at her in her arms.
" Alright, princess, go play. We have to set up for your party." Niall says. He places Melody on the ground near her toys. He walks up to Liam.
" What else do we have to do?" Niall asks.
" We have the princess decorations up, the house is clean, we have the food, DJ is getting the cake soon, we have a couple games. I actually think we're good." Liam says.
" Okay, good. Our parents and Lani should be here soon. The Tomlinson's will show up more when the party starts." Niall says.
" Sounds good." Liam says. Niall looks at his sons.
" Go get dressed. And DJ when you're done getting dressed, can you please go get the cake?" Niall says. They both nod their heads. They run upstairs. Niall looks back at Liam. Liam kisses Niall's lips. Niall smiles in the kiss. They pull apart.
" Hey, I love you." Liam says.
" I love you more." Niall says," Now go get dressed before our families come over."
Liam nods his head. He heads upstairs. Niall looks at Melody who was looking at a book. He walks and sits down next to her. Melody smiles at him and shows him the book.
" Dada." Melody says.
" I see princess. Are you ready for your party today?" Niall says. Melody nods her head. Niall smiles at her. Drew comes down the stairs.
" Alright, I'm off to get the cake. Do you need anything else while I'm out?" Drew says.
" I don't think so. I can call if needed." Niall says. Drew nods his head. He walks to the door that connects to the garage. Niall hears him leave. And as Drew left, the front door opens.
" Liam! We're here baby!" Karen says as her and Geoff walk into the house. They smile at Niall sitting on the floor next to Melody.
" Hello Niall. Where's Liam?" Karen asks. They walk into the living room as Niall stands up.
" He's getting dressed. He should be down soon." Niall says opening his arms for a hug. Each parent hugs him. Then they look at Melody still focused on the book.
" And look how big you're getting Melody!" Karen says. Melody looks up and smiles. She shows Karen and Geoff her book. Liam comes down the stairs.
" Hey mum." Liam says. Karen turns around and held her arms open for a hug. Liam gives her a hug.
" It's very nice to see you baby." Karen says. She looks at Niall," Where's Brendon and DJ?"
" Brendon probably started a video game. He'll be down for the party. And DJ went to get Melody's cake." Niall says.
" Where do you want Melody's gift?" Geoff asks.
" I can take it." Liam says. Liam takes the gift from Geoff. Liam places it on the coffee table in the room.
" Papa!" Melody says. Liam walks back to Melody.
" I'm right here princess." Liam says. Melody smiles at him. The front door opens and Lani walks in. She smiles when she sees her family.
" Hi guys!" Lani exclaims. She steps into the family room. Karen and Lani start a conversation. Then Lani looks at Melody sitting on the floor.
" Oh my goodness! Look at you Melody!" Lani says. She sits on the ground next to Melody. She starts talking to her about the book Melody is still holding.
" Hello Lani." Liam says.
" Yeah, hi daddy." Lani says, more invested in Melody. Liam rolls his eyes as Niall shakes his head. Niall looks at Liam's parents.
" Do you guys want something to drink?" Niall asks.
" We're fine. Thank you Niall." Karen says. The front door opens and Maura walks in. She immediately starts looking for Melody.
" Where is my granddaughter?" Maura says. She walks to where Lani and Melody were sitting. Maura starts talking to Melody.
" Yes, hello to you to mum." Niall says. Maura waves back at him. Niall shakes his head. Lani looks at Niall and Liam.
" Is Brendon upstairs?" Lani asks. They both nod their heads. Lani stands up and picks up Melody.
" Lets go see Brendon then Melody." Lani says.
" Bee!" Melody exclaims. She was about to walk upstairs when Maura stops her.
" I think Melody should stay down here." Maura says.
" Mum, let Lani take her. You'll see her eventually." Niall says. Maura pouts as Lani walks upstairs. Lani walks into Brendon's room to see him playing video games.
" What, you're not gonna come down to see me?" Lani pouts her lip out. She sits down next to Brendon and places Melody in front of her.
" Eventually. I just didn't want to be down there right away. And besides, everyone is gonna have their attention on Melody anyway." Brendon says.
" So you're starting to feel like the forgotten middle child, huh?" Lani says.
" I guess. It's weird having her around, but I'm glad she's here too. I don't know." Brendon says.
" I felt that way when my mum had kids with her new husband. But your dad's love you, they're not going to forget you. Besides, DJ is going to uni so it'll be you, them, and Melody." Lani says. Brendon gives her a smile.
" And besides, it's her first birthday. Of course people are gonna pay attention to her." Lani says. She has Melody face him," And how could you not pay attention to her? Look how cute she is!"
Lani shows Brendon Melody. Melody smiles at Brendon. She reaches out to Brendon.
" Bee!" Melody says. Brendon smiles at Melody.
" Hi Melody." Brendon says. Melody takes the couple steps the Brendon. She grabs Brendon's controller and starts pushing buttons. Brendon chuckles at her because his character was going crazy on the screen.
The Tomlinson kids walk into the room. They gather around the two siblings.
" Hey Brendon, can I play?" Mason asks.
" Can I play too?" Grayson asks. Brendon nods his head. He hands off his controller to Mason as Grayson grabs another controller. Melody pouts at Brendon because she's upset that Brendon gave away the controller.
" Bee." Melody pouts.
" Oh, don't pout at me. There's other things to play with." Brendon says.
" Yeah! Like I want to play with you Melody!" Larry says. Melody nods her head. Larry starts to play with her. Brendon looks at Sage.
" Hey Sage." Brendon says.
Sage smiles," Hi bestie."
" Brendon! Can you bring down Melody please?" Niall calls. Larry pouts his lip at Brendon.
" I just started to play with her." Larry pouts.
" Sorry Larry. You can play with her downstairs." Brendon says. He picks up Melody and places her on his hip. He walks out of his room with Sage, Lani, and Larry following. He walks downstairs to see all the adults and Drew. Melody smiles at all of her guests.
" Happy birthday Melody!" Everyone exclaims. Melody giggles.
And with that, the party continued. Nobody could believe Melody was already a year old.
