"Dad?" I questioned.
"Hi," he smiled slightly.
Every part of me was confused. What the hell is he doing here and why does he look better than he did when I last seen him, need I remind you was years ago.
"Dad?" Chase asked, "Stop it."
"And who are you young man?" my dad asked.
"Her boyfriend," Chase answered firmly.
"I'm Johnny, nice to meet ya," he said, offering his hand out. Chase looked at me before shaking it, I guess he didn't want to be rude.
"Emily what happened?" Johnny asked because this man is certainly not my father.
"I tried to kill myself," I said boldly.
"What? Why would you do such a thing?"
"Didn't you try before?"
"I- um... that was a long time ago," he coughed.
"Doesn't matter, it happened," I shrugged.
"Well how are you?" he smiled.
"I ran in front of a big ass truck, what do you think?"
"I think I'm glad you're okay."
"Couldn't say the same here," I shrugged.
"Em I'm trying here," he sighed.
"And I tried almost all my fucking life so don't come here and tell me you're trying because I had to grow up by my damn self," I said calmly.
"Can you not get her aroused up?"
"Don't tell me what to do, this is my daughter!" Johnny yelled.
"No, I stopped being your daughter a long time ago Johnny."
"You take that back young lady!"
"Grown lady actually! Every since I was 15! You fucking drunk," I cried.
"See what you did, it's time to leave pops," Chase said, ushering him out the door.
"I tried to come here and make my amends because my wife told me so but I knew you were gonna be stubborn," Johnny spat.
"Wife?"
"Yes wife, oh and you have some siblings by the way."
"Stay the fuck away from me."
"Yeah," he said, walking out the door.
How dare he? Wife? Siblings? But yet you came to see your daughter for your own good. God that's sick and everyone's wondering why I am the way I am.
I was about to continue crying but then Jake came in the door surprising me.
"Hi Emily," he smiled sending shutter waves through my body.
"H-hi."
"How are you feeling? Are you okay?"
"Good, Yeah everything's great," I nodded, "Well besides the pain."
"That's good."
"How have you been?"
"Baseballs kicking my ass but I've been handling it."
"Of course, big tournament coming up if I remember correctly right?" I smiled.
"Yeah," he beamed.
"Cool."
"Yeah, glad to see you're awake. Don't ever be stupid again okay?" he smiled.
"No promises," I laughed.
"Emily that's not funny," Chase frowned.
"Right, no more stupidness," I smiled.
Jake and Chase dapped each other up before having a conversation about something stupid, I don't know. I was just listening in. It's nice to see these two repairing the bind they once had before I ruined it.
Didn't take long for Chris to soon show up.
"Hey Emily," he exhaled, walking in the room with flowers.
"Really dad? Think you're better than everyone else?" Chase asked.
"Chase," I said giving him a warning glare only because I didn't want to laugh.
"Too soon?" he smiled.
"Why wouldn't you want your three best..." Jake started.
"That's enough," Chris said quickly interrupting him.
"Thanks for the flowers," I mumbled.
"Do you remember...?"
"I'm not an idiot Chris."
"It's..."
"It's fine is what it is," I smiled, "No need to remind me of all the tragedies I've faced in the last month."
"Okay," he nodded.
We all talked for the next couple of hours just losing track of time mostly. I know it's a bad thing all of these guys are here but I'm glad they are. Nothings more than what it should be, we're all just talking and being company to one another .
"Damn, it's 11:53," Chase said, checking his phone.
"I'm going to be so tired tomorrow," Jake sighed.
"You can go, thank you for coming today, well everyday," I smiled.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world," he smiled, "Alright guys."
"Dad get your ass home and get some rest too," Chase said.
"Watch it boy," Chris warned, "I'll still whoop you."
"You never did."
"Okay little boy."
"What was that? Because last time I checked I'm a man."
"Chase get out of my face," Chris said, shaking his head.
I burst into laughter watching the two of them go back and forth even if it was a little weird.
"I'll see you later Emily," Chris said, walking out the door.
"Byeee...."
"You need anything? Hungry?" Chase asked.
"Nope but I do need something."
"Emily we're in a hospital."
"Not that you douche, come here," I said, patting the space beside me.
"I know you want it but now is definitely not the time."
"Chase," I sighed.
"Joking," he said, plopping down next to me and wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
"What's up?"
"I'm sorry for what I did."
"You had your reasons baby, and I should've been there."
"But I called you beforehand... it's just... when I did it, I wasn't thinking about anyone but myself. I didn't think of how you would feel...."
"I was..."
"Crying everyday," I interrupted. "I couldn't see you but I felt you and it hurt me that I caused your pain."
"Well I love you and if that comes with pain then I don't care."
"I'll never do it again," I promised.
"I'll never leave you again."
"You didn't leave," I smiled, "You stayed."
"I would've left with you, you know..." he said abruptly.
"I would've never asked you to do that nor would I have let that happen."
"You wouldn't have to ask me, I would do it in a heartbeat. Life never served a purpose to me until I met you. If you're out of the equation then what's left?"
"You'll meet someone way better than me," I laughed, "Someone who's actually not complicated."
"And I'll tell them to get the fuck out of my face because I love Emily Jones and it's always going to be her."
I smiled, cuffing his hands into mine. This side of Chase is definitely a plus even though I love him either way. Despite my efforts to leave this alone, I can't and I've accepted that.
"When I get out of the fucking mental institution will you be waiting for me?" I asked, looking up at him.
"I will always wait on you Emily."
"No Chase seriously. You're not going to be able to see me everyday like you did here and who knows how long till I get out."
"You could get out in a year and I'll still be waiting at those doors. Me equals no purpose without you remember?"
"Yeah," I nodded, "And don't ever say you don't have purpose again or I'll kick your ass."
"There's my Emily," he smiled.
My Emily? I like that...
