Jake and I went to the Rooms to Go first to pick out some new mattresses.
"Hey, I'm Ashley, how can I assist you today?" the sales lady spoke.
"We're looking for some new mattresses," I cheesed.
"Right this way," she said, as we followed her into the back of the store.
"You can look around, and just call me when you're done. I'll be right over there," Ashley smiled, walking away.
We were left in the middle of the walkway staring at the whole bedding section. Everything was so nice and neat that it drove me crazy.
"Don't even think about it," Jake cooed.
"Jake.... look," I babied.
"I'm looking alright."
I grabbed his hand ushering him to the first bed I laid eyes on. It was a queen sized and the material was a dark chocolate color that I loved.
"This is nice," he admitted.
"Shall we test it out?" I smiled.
"Why the hell not, he said, climbing onto the bed. I climbed in next to him, admiring the softness.
"Aw this is nice," he sighed.
"I know right."
We laid there staring at the ceiling for a while before I finally got him to agree to check out some of the other beds.
We literally tried them all out even though we were only supposed to come for mattresses.
"What do you think?" I asked.
"Honestly I really like the first bed," he smiled.
"What about our twin beds?"
"We can move them out.."
"And share that one?"
"I mean if that's what you want," he shrugged.
"Okay," I smiled. "Ashleyyy"
"Yes," she said hurrying over.
"We want that one," Jake pointed towards the bed.
"Okay, you want it delivered?" She asked.
"Yes but the thing is we have two small beds in the room that we don't want."
"Okay no problem, our delivery guys will pick those up and that's an extra 20% off that bed."
"Okay, so how much is it?" Jake asked.
"The bed is originally $1,024 but with the price reduction, it'll come to fairly about $970," Ashley said typing on her keypad.
I looked over at Jake who gave me a nod stating the price was fine.
"Anything else?" Ashley asked.
"Nope just the bed," I answered.
"Okay come on, I'll ring you up," she nodded. We followed her to the counter where Jake paid and she gave us our warranty.
"Delivery is set for tomorrow, thank you," she smiled.
We walked out of the store happy, me more than him.
"Where are we going next?" I asked.
"IKEA"
"Why?" I laughed.
"Shhhh," he said turning up the radio and driving to the store. I kept pestering him about it but he didn't answer me so I gave up.
Once we made it, I got out the car still confused on why we were here as we walked up.
"Now can you tell me why we're here?" I asked.
"We're here so you can get whatever you want for the room, now."
"Whatever I want?" I grinned.
"Yes," he smiled.
"Why are you doing this?"
"We're roommates and friends, we might as well decorate "our place", he shrugged.
"Thank you Jake," I smiled, giving him a surprising hug.
"That's new," he teased.
"Don't get used to it."
He rolled his eyes as I lead him to the tv section because we needed a bigger one.
"This one," I said, pointing to a 70' inch. I could tell Jake immediately regretted his decision but he kindly helped me put it in the cart.
Next we went to get a new comforter for the bed. We kept debating about whether to get white or black so in the end we chose a grey.
I got a couple things for the bathroom too including a new shower curtain, bathroom mats, soap, towels and some clothes racks.
"What else do we need?" I asked.
"I don't know, you tell me."
"Posters," I beamed. He gave a fake smile as we went into the decor section. I found two roomy paintings instead for both for Jake and I.
We picked up a couple more things before finally going to checkout. I was overly joyed that I had gotten basically everything I wanted but a little worried for the price.
"Your total comes to $2,100," the lady smiled.
Jakes eyes widened but he didn't even hesitate to pull out his card and pay. I felt bad because I didn't know the price was going to be that much but frankly he did tell me get whatever I wanted for the room.
"Thank you," I smiled.
"Mhm," he mumbled.
"Shopping for your new home?" The lady nosily asked.
"More like room, we're roommates," I grinned.
"Are you guys dating? You look happy," she went on.
"Not together," I said slightly annoyed.
"I couldn't tell," she joked.
I hurried and loaded the things on the cart as we exited the store. I don't like nosey people and that lady was obviously trying to get at something.
Jake and I accordingly loaded the things into the Jeep before we got in. We made small conversation on the way back to our dorms about old times and memories.
"Remember that time in first grade where you had gotten your first boyfriend and I proposed to you?" He laughed.
Flashback...
"Jake, I have a boyfriend," I beamed.
"You can't have a boyfriend, you're too young," Jake said, rolling his eyes.
"Well I do and I love him."
"Emily you don't know what love is," he said, throwing dirt on me.
"Yes I do dummy."
"Do you like him more than me?"
"Yes, I hate you Jake."
"What if we got married? Would you still hate me?"
"Mommy says you shouldn't hate your husband."
"Then marry me!"
"What?"
"Marry me Emily."
"I thought you said I didn't know what love is. You have to love to get married."
"Shutup," he sighed.
"Maybe I'll marry you someday Jakey."
"Yeah," he frowned.
I kneeled beside him playing in the dirt as we laughed and talked about the grinch since Christmas was coming up.
Flashback ends...
"Omg. I remember that like it was yesterday," I laughed.
"Yeah, I was an idiot back then."
"We both were," I laughed as Jake joined in.
I've spent so much time hating him since the semester started that I didn't realize how much actual history and fun times we had. The good definitely outweighs the bad with us.
"So speaking of boyfriends, what do you think he'll say about us sharing a bed now," Jake asked.
"Well," I sighed. "He won't be coming over because I know you don't want to be around him."
"That's not what I asked."
"I..I-don't know," I shrugged. "I don't think it'll be a big deal."
"Mhm," he nodded.
"You and I are just friends so... it'll be fine."
"Right," he said, looking over at me. I stared back into his blue eyes only to quickly turn away.
A smirk played on his face as he focused on the road. I couldn't allow myself to even think about Jake in another way. First off I'm with Chase and secondly, I don't want to ruin our friendship.
My life could possibly be better like this and I'm not just going to fuck up when things are just starting to come together. Chase let my guard down so the whole mean and bitchy Emily is out the window and Jake being here for me made me realize I can't be alone.
