Ha-na joined JYP entertainment when she was 12 years old. Two years later, at age 14 she got transferred to a new entertainment company; Big Hit Entertainment.
While being a trainee in JYP, Ha-na was keeping up with her studies and learning new things besides how to be an idol.

Ha-na got transferred to Big Hit Entertainment after a lot of meetings between the CEOs and her dancing and singing mentors.
Big Hit saw an enormous potential in Ha-na, although JYP saw it too, the company didn't plan to make her debut any time soon.
When Ha-na arrived to Big Hit, she was the only trainee with special dance classes as well as singing, which was something she didn't know.
The plan Big Hit had for her was joining a group that was already formed with 7 other members, although the group was planned to debut in 2013, Ha-na would join a year later.
Ha-na didn't know she was joining a group with 7 boys, and neither do they. Ha-na was being mentored by Hoseok; one of the members, but he didn't know he was actually training her for joining his group.
