Chapter 34

Third person POV

[January 21, 2046, Right before they parted ways with Sonju and Mujika]

The group exited the forest and entered the Demon Wastelands. The kids looked around in fascination as they absorbed everything. Sonju pointed to a direction.

"Keep heading southwards to arrive at your destination." He said. Emma took out her compass and looked at to so that they will know where to head next. The kids approached Mujika and wailed.

"Mujika!"

"Wahh!"

"I don't want to say goodbye!"

"Can't you stay with us a little longer?" Ray smiled sadly before approaching them and placing his hand on top of their heads. 

"Stay strong. These two have places to be, too." Ray said kindly.  "We have to be strong enough to be able to survive on our own."

"Don't worry. As long as you stay out of here, you won't run into any of the 'demons'." Sonju said. Ray gave him a tiny smile before looking at the kids. A movement beside him caused him to look up rapidly and the sight nearly made him break down.

It's Sunshine behind Emma as Emma and Mujuka talks privately. She stood behind as if she's waiting for something. As if a memory resurfaced, he looked around, noticing that nobody is looking at her.

'It's as if Sunshine wanted to let me see her. As well as Emma.'

"No matter what you do," Sonju said strictly that made his attention turn to him, "don't ever stray back in to the forest or go near a body of water. Understood?" Nat, Thoma, and Lani tensed and immediately saluted him. 

"Y-Yes!"

"Look for the Seven Walls." Mujika said as she leaned beside her right ear. She saw Sunshine smiling at her so she smiled back. "The future you all are heading towards, lies beyond this point. And look behind you." Mujika pulled back. Emma looked at her confused before following her. She froze as she saw Sunshine smiling at her.

"Sunshine." Emma said. All the other kids, including Ray looked at her questionably. Sunshine looked at them and smiled.

"They can't see me but I can see you and you can see me." Sunshine said. She looked at Ray and she noticed that Ray's tears started to fall once more.

"Ray." Sunshine smiled. She beckoned for her to approached her and he immediately followed. The other kids looked at them confused before Gilda spoke, getting why they've been acting weird.

"They can see Sunshine. But we can't see her since their love for her is far stronger than us. But nevertheless, we love her." Gilda said sadly as she watched Ray placed himself beside Emma and in front of Sunshine, who still is smiling widely.

"Congratulations! You are nearing the Shelter. The real fun starts there. Remember that you've saved a life even if I sacrificed mine." Sunshine said. She started to shimmer as Ray panicked and tried to grab her but his hand passed through him. Sunshine smiled sadly.

"Sunshine. . ." Ray mumbled. Emma just stared at Sunshine and Ray. The other kids, along with Sonju and Mujika are staring at them as they witness the unconditional love between the two resurface.
