Ch#47 The Main Heroes

Two weeks have passed since Ellis regained consciousness and today was his discharge. Yet, he did not speak to his dad. Mr.Edgar tried to explain to him a lot, but speaking to a wall would have been better. I asked my parents whether or not I should help him out, but they advised me that it's better for the father and son to resolve their problem. However, I told them that I will step in if it doesn't work at all for Mr.Edgar. After taking that stab for me, this is the least I could do for Ellis.

As I walked into the hospital to meet Ellis, I saw Mr.Edgar storming out, exasperated. "Mr.Edgar, what's wrong? Are you alright?" I asked him.

"What am I supposed to do, Alana? Ellis is not even ready to listen to me. How am I supposed to redeem myself?", he begged. I knew this would happen. I myself took a lot of time to gain Ellis' trust.

"Mr.Edgar, I suggest you to wait outside. Let me try talking some sense into him", I assured him. He nodded and I marched into the hospital. As I reached Ellis' room, I took a deep breath in and put on a smile.

"Hey, ugly", he greeted.

"Hello, douchebag", I snorted. I placed my backpack on the table beside and sat beside him.

"How's the wound?", I queried.

"Oh, it hurts like a bitch", he feigned pain.

"Suck it up, girl. You're discharging today. Can't be hurting that much", I disagreed to play along while he scoffed.

"Where's Yohan and Beth?", he asked.

"Yohan is spending quality time with his parents while Beth has her final hearing today. Finn has almost won her custody", I answered him while he hummed.

"Ellis, did you speak to your Dad?", I pried.

"If you're here to speak about him, then leave. I'll discharge myself", he snapped.

"He's not a bad person, Ellis. I agree he was a terrible father. But he's asking for a second chance." He ignored my words and poured himself a cup of water. I grabbed the cup and drank the water myself in a gulp and frowned at him.

"Listen, you asshole. I'm not requesting you to hear me out. I'm ordering. So shut the fuck up and listen to me", I blurted while he stared at me in surprise. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before I continued.

"I have forgiven Riley. You wanted me to, didn't you? And why? So that I could leave behind my past and move ahead. That's what I want from you too. I want you to forget about your past and move ahead, building new relationships, so that you can be happy."

"I am happy enough with you guys. I don't want my dad", he refuted.

"But you do want to know what does it feel like to have soccer nights with your dad, don't you? You do want to know how it feels like to surprise your father on his birthdays. You do want to know the warmth of a father's embrace", I expressed. He avoided my gaze.

"Ellis, just give him a second chance. He might not have been ready for the first one. Starting all over again isn't that bad. You basically get another chance to make things right."

"I can't be foolish to trust him again, Al."

"I'm not asking you to trust him. I don't expect you to trust him that soon. Well, I myself had to go through Dave's torture to win your trust. And your dad, for not being a good father, needs to struggle a little to gain your trust", I teased which brought a smile on his face.

"I can't promise that I'll give him a second chance right over. But I'll try", he shrugged.

"That's alright. You can start with baby steps for now and then go ahead with long jumps", I gushed.
