♡ Part 80: Favour ♡

there was an undesirable feeling that sparked sasuke's heart. perhaps it was sorrow? he wasn't sure, but that sole sentence was able to cause a big spark in his heart that left a bitter taste to reach his mouth, and a bitter feeling to touch his heart

shikamaru: if you think that's what you did, then that's what you did.

sasuke: what else did i do?

the nara shrugged his shoulders

shikamaru: that's for your troublesome mind to decide

NEXT DAY (January 14th)

TO SAKURA

there was no longer a point in keeping the promise she made to naruto. 

FLASHBACK

naruto: this is my fault, not yours.

sakura: no....no it's not

naruto: can i ask you a favor?

the pinkette removed her arms from the injured blonde and awaited for the favor that was to soon be relayed to her. 

naruto awkwardly scratched the back of his head 

naruto: don't be mad at teme, 'kay?

sakura almost tumbled over her own feet for a second

sakura: what are you talking about? he hurt you....

her voice trailed off as she looked away but then immediately shot her head back to him the moment she felt his hand on her arm. 

naruto: please? i don't want to hurt team y'know

sakura: neither do i---

naruto: ---so then do me this favor, 'kay?

he tried to force a smile onto his lips, but failed miserably. 

sakura: why do you always protect him? 

naruto: because he's my best friend, sakura. 

sakura: even after beating you up?

naruto looked to his side, not being able to answer that question full hearted.

sakura: ....fine

he tightened his weak grip on her arm

naruto: thanks y'know

she wiped her tears away as he did the same. sakura hated seeing naruto so hurt, but even so, naruto still did his best to protect sasuke. 

END FLASHBACK

there was no point in keeping that promise if the person who proposed it, didn't feel the need to have that promise anymore. naruto was furious with sasuke from the events of the day before, which only caused the promise to be meaningless. 

sasuke and sakura broke up, naruto and sasuke don't talk anymore. 

what went wrong while they were trying so hard to be happy together? she didn't know. 

she made her way to the school grounds and was immediately met with hinata's grace. the ravenette made her way to the pinkette with a gentle smile, but it also hinted some sadness in it. 

hinata: g-good morning sakura-chan

sakura softly smiled

sakura: morning

the duo made their way to the fences and stood by them as they waited for more people from their group to show up

hinata: s-sakura-chan! jiraiya-sensei is going to give us our language assignment t-today.... a-are you excited?

sakura appreciated the effort hinata was putting in to make her momentarily forget about sasuke 

sakura: of course, language is my best subject.

the two of them grin with each other

ino: we're here!

the duo shifted their attention to the side to see the rest of the girls approaching them

ino: we're going to get some amazake after school today, are you guys joining us? 

sakura looked down

sakura: i have hockey practice at the arena today

ino: oh, right. 

she awkwardly chuckled

naruto: oi sakura-chan!

she immediately cocked her head to the side again to see naruto, hidan and shikamaru making their way to them. an odd sensation spread through her heart as she stared at the blonde

sakura: you giant idiot

the blonde playfully frowned

naruto: what did i do this time?

already being used to her mild insults, he smiled it off and stood beside her. however to everyone else, this seemed odd. 

the two of them seemed odd

as they talked, the bell rang and they all headed to class together with small chatter and laughter. they all seemed to be trying their bests to keep the good mood going and it was somewhat working---- but that still didn't change the small bit of sorrow that latched onto sakura's heart.
