♡ Part 73: maybe she was right ♡

AFTER SCHOOL

TO SAKURA

she packed her things from her locker and was ready to head to the gym where the hockey team would practice like usual. she looked around and saw sasuke at his locker and so she decided to him to see if he was okay. they barely uttered a word to each other all day and she was beginning to worry about him and his well being

once she reached him, she tapped on his shoulder and went beside him

sakura: we have hockey practice today

sasuke's response was a simple nod. she awkwardly chuckled and continued

sakura: i'm excited to see what the new players have installed for the team. oh and....

she pushed his shoulder to the side to make him face her. the moment she did, she looked up into his eyes to see that they were more hollow than usual. she tied her eyebrows together with a slight frown

sakura: i'm here to listen, you can tell me now if you'd like

silence filled in between them despite the fact that they were in a busy locker bay with loud chatter and laughter. they stared into each others eyes and sasuke simply grabbed his things with one hand and let the other grab her wrist. he dragged her to a dead end hall where there was less noise and the moment he did, he dropped his backpack to the floor and stared into her eyes with her wrist still in his grasp

sasuke: naruto kissed you, right?

her eyes widened at his claim which left her cheeks to redden. onyx searched through emerald to find any type of regret, but he couldn't see anything. she slowly ducked her head and gave a nod

sakura: we did. he told you, right?

sasuke: yeah

sasuke tightened his grip on her wrist causing her to cock her head back to his level

sasuke: why didn't you tell me?

his voice was soft yet so hurt

sasuke: the least you could've done was tell me

sakura: i didn't because naruto was hurt. it wasn't my place to---

sasuke: i'm your boyfriend, it is your place to tell me these things, hmph

sakura felt regret fill her veins once he put the situation that way. he was right, he was her boyfriend and she should've told him. although still, there was a part of her that wished that this remained a secret. not for herself, but to keep sasuke away from the same pain naruto had

sakura: i didn't tell you because i didn't want to hurt you

sasuke: but you did

sakura glanced down to her wrist then back to his eyes

sakura: he was hurt, and i don't want you to feel hurt as well. i figured that if i didn't tell you, then maybe things could've been okay

sasuke: so if that was the case, then why did you leave with naruto instead of staying with me so that i could've told you my decision?

the pinkette froze

sasuke: you felt bad for dobe and you didn't want to hurt me. but for something like this, instead of hurting my friendship with dobe and keeping it a secret from me, you should've told me hmph. 

sakura: i didn't hurt your friendship with naruto

sasuke let go of her wrist and stared at her with a stern and serious expression

sasuke: you did by not telling me and going off with him. 

sakuras regretful expression changed into a somewhat angered one. all she's been doing was trying to help naruto from his pain while trying to keep sasuke happy in their relationship--- although it didn't seem like sasuke was getting the point

sakura: sasuke, i didn't tell you because i didn't want to hurt you. naruto is my best friend and he was hurt, far more hurt than i had ever seen him. 

her eyes saddened

sakura: i don't want to make him ever cry the way he did ever again

sasuke: so then what about us?!

he raised his voice and she flinched

sasuke: sakura, all you're doing right now is saying naruto this and naruto that... but what about our relationship? did you ever think of the happiness of our relationship?

sakura stepped forward and now their bodies and faces were only a few centimetres apart. she looked up to him with her eyes become more sad than it already was

sakura: i do, i always do and that's why i worry about you all the time. sasuke....

she wanted to touch his arm, but she pulled back once she saw the way he looked to the side in sadness

sasuke: karin still loves me. she told me that i'd regret dating you...

she could only see the side of his face, but it was enough to see how much pain it wielded

sasuke: maybe, she was right

sakuras eyes widened

sakura: ...s-sasuke...

TO NARUTO

they were already onto their training but sasuke and sakura had yet to come. he looked around in hopes that they would show, but they were nowhere in sight

kakashi: naruto, come here

naruto did as he was told and stood before kakashi

kakashi: where are they?

naruto: i don't know, sensei....

the masked mans eyes narrowed slightly before motioning for naruto to continue to practice. 

shikamaru: he doesn't know either?

the blonde boy shook his head

naruto: they might be talking about what happened...

shikamaru: but they're taking too lo--- dammit

hidan: come get it you sucker!

shikamaru groaned in annoyance as he chased hidan around the gym to get his hockey stick back. naruto stood still as he wondered what could possibly be going on with them but figured that he had no place to get involved right now. they were lovers, and he knew very well that he had no place to say anything

he never would.

MIDWAY THROUGH PRACTICE

the gym doors opened while kakashi was explaining some new hockey tactics that he wanted the team to try out. the players were seated across the floor as kakashi had a large standing whiteboard portrayed to his players and a marker in his hand. they all shifted their gazes to the doors in hopes of seeing the two people that were missing from practice---- but there was only one

kakashi: take a seat

the newcomer took a seat beside naruto and he stared at them with an odd face

naruto: where's sakura?

sasuke: she went home
