As you walk further inside, you realise why the Proxy House didn't expand to this part of the facility. Old machines and tools litter everything around the warehouse, some cleared out already but others -usually the bigger ones- are left to rot since nobody can move them. More tanks are filled with what you presume is battery acid than the ones that aren't, some of them sealed carefully with heavy iron lids but others completely exposed; liquid silver shining despite the stark darkness, it doesn't take a genius to realize that it was mercury contained in those tanks, a highly dangerous substance that was actually banned from the battery industry in 1996.
Which actually means this warehouse is abandoned for more than 24 years.
Suddenly you are thankful you are wearing your mask; ventilation is bound to be bad in here and you'd rather not inhale something bad if you can avoid it.
It is a good long while until you start hearing voices in the distance; looking up ahead, you notice the flicker of light coming from behind one of the enormous tanks that reach the ceiling. Stilling your moves, you stop and listen for a while; whoever it is, they seem pretty confident that no one is going to eavesdrop, loudly arguing with a softer, calmer voice.
'What the absolute fuck do you think you are doing? Leaving dead Proxies left and right will bring unnecessary suspicion!' a female voice, austere but light argues 'The Elites have noticed; Clockwork said so herself.'
'There are bound to be casualties when testing the drug; I assure you it is all under control.' That was Dr. Pain talking.
'They already forced their Allies into the Forest. If we don't scatter them, there is no chance of this being a success.' Another male voice responds, calm and collected, sounding deep like a gong.
Inhaling a deep breath of air, you inch closer; taking one careful step behind the other, you creep your way towards the voices, keeping rapt attention in the way the light paints the nearby walls. There is movement and you instinctively freeze, but thankfully for you, none seems to come towards your direction. Instead, you slowly make your way to the scaffolding on your left; there is a very dark spot at the junction that further moves above the place where the voices are, able to give you enough cover to overlook what is happening without being noticed.
'Apparently, they brought in a Sleeper to see what on earth is going on though Doc.' The first female continues 'They've made progress in figuring out what happened to the Houses within the Forest.'
'She's as stupid as they get. I'll kill her before she's got the fucking chance to even come close.' Clockwork sneers but there is a mocking scoff.
'Tell that to William and Michael; maybe you aren't as sharp as you claim to be Clocky.' The male chuckles.
'Shut the fuck up Liu, or I'll send Jeff your bitch-ass way.'
The chuckle is cut short 'That would be a favour.'
Dropping to your knees, you crawl your way to the hiding spot in all fours. As you do, all the people currently present inside the warehouse come in complete view as you shrink back into the darkness, comfortably folding your legs underneath you and look over the scaffolding and towards them. There is a single light shining above them and the room before you is simply another control room, emptied out completely to make space for the arguing people.
Two new faces have entered the playground.
A male, roughly around his late twenties is casually leaning against the wall on the opposite on the left. He is tall and extremely lean, dressed in worn out clothes that once were rather expensive yet now had dulled and torn in various places; he had tried to sew them back together the best he could though. If he was going for the edgy, bad-boy look he definitely had it, combined with his pale complexion and mop of dishevelled caramel coloured hair; the only thing that gave him away, were the huge slashes across his face, which he had messily stitched back together, the same way he did his clothes. His sewing abilities needed desperate work since he'd be a perfect Frankenstein monster as it is.
