Chapter 46

I arrive home when it's already past midnight.

I spent most of the ride in the car with San in silence, worried about what might have happened;
That's why as soon as I entered I went straight to the living room,
finding myself in front of my mother sitting on the couch with a desperate air and her fiancee Minjun standing, going back and forth through the room looking exhausted.

Only later I notice Jongho, sitting with his arms folded and head down on the armchair.

"What happened?"
I ask, making everyone turn towards me and breaking that awkward silence.

"Ask this wretch"
Minjun replies, and I look at Jongho, who continues to remain silent.

"Jongho asked us to go back to New York.."
My mother intervenes.

"And what is the urgent problem?"
I'm confused .. is this an urgent problem for them-

"The reason is the problem!"
Minjun says furiously against his son.

"His girlfriend is pregnant"
My mom throws the bomb, and I'm shocked.

I remembered that my brother had a girlfriend, and apparently she is American ...
He probably met her this summer when he went there to take that drawing course.

"I am going to take my responsibilities"
Jongho finally says.

"Your responsibility was to put a fucking condom on!"
The father thunders, scaring both me and my mother.

"Wait a second..So you want to go live there?"
I ask Jongho directly, and he nods.

"Honey, you have the last year of school still to do.."
My mother says sweetly.

"He's just a kid. I won't allow him to transfer to the other side of the world."
The father adds.

What a mess.

"If you believe that I'll stay here ignoring the idea that I will have a child in a few months, you are wrong!"
Jongho seems determined to me, and on the one hand I am proud of him.

Many boys would have pretended nothing happened and abandoned the girl, but here my brother is really showing maturity.

"Julia, I called you because I thought of something.."
My mom starts saying, getting my attention.
"What if you go to America with him?"

"I am attending university here.."
I don't want to leave.
Here I'm creating my life, between my friends and San, I can't think of going back to America now.

"I am not a kid who needs babysitting!"
Jongho says, annoyed by what my mother proposed.

"In fact, we've seen what you've done on your own.."
Minjun says, now tired of arguing.

"I could during the summer break.."
I say, remembering that I promised my father to go to Los Angeles for the summer break.

While I go looking for food. All these family problems made me hungry.

"Did your boyfriend accompany you?"
My mother asks me, entering the kitchen, while I am preparing a sandwich.

"Yeah"
I say, a little vague.

"Apologize to Jaehyun for me for ruining your night"

"Mum I have to tell you something.."
I can't keep her believing I'm with that idiot, despite the fact that she adored him.

"I am no longer with Jaehyun. My boyfriend is now called San, I want to tell you something you really won't believe-"
I start to say, ready to tell her about our childhood past, but I stop, noting her disapproval of my enthusiasm.

"Is there any problem?"

"Nothing. I was just wondering if this San is from a good family.."
I can't believe this is really all that matters for her..

"If you really want to know, he is Jaehyun's cousin. So yes! Disgustingly rich."
I say, taking my sandwich and leaving her alone in the kitchen.

Now I remember why I chose to go and stay with my father.
