I groaned as my mind slowly regained consciousness and the first thing that registered in my mind was that I was in pain ... and a lot of it. My body was rocking gently from side to side, as though I was in a speeding vehicle while outside an irritating and loud noise was heard. But what managed to make its way into my thoughts was a firm yet gentle hold on my hand.
I slowly opened my eyes, but everything was a blur. Large, blurry figures moved above me, but my attention focused on the grip on my hand. My eyes refused to clear, but I could make out that a larger hand was wrapped around mine. I weakly trailed my eyes upwards, my eyesight growing worse the higher I went; much to my dismay.
The hold on my hand felt so comforting, so familiar as I stared up at a figure with dark brown hair. My eyes squinted and I tried to focus, but nothing changed. Then I suddenly remembered the person on the black motorbike and my eyes widened.
"C-Cole?" I asked, but my voice barely came out as my chest seized in pain.
The grip on my hand tightened as I moved my gaze to my chest. Because it was so much closer, my vision cleared and my eyes widened at what I saw.
Blood.
So much blood that you couldn't even tell that my school blouse was once white. But that wasn't the worst: it was the large piece of metal protruding from my chest. My heart stopped as my mind turned blank for a millisecond before switching into overdrive.
I clutched onto the hand and screamed, but a spasm cut it short. "She's awake!" I heard someone yell, but I couldn't comprehend what they were saying.
My thoughts focused solely on my ragged breathing as blood gushed out of my chest with every heartbeat.
"Get a sedative now! Step away, son," a deep voice said and I felt the grasp leave my hand.
"N-No," I wheezed and immediately clambered to reach it again, but suddenly I couldn't breathe and I began to panic more.
An oxygen mask was placed over my mouth hastily and I watched as puffs of steam immediately filled it.
"She's losing too much blood! Where's the sedative?" the voice yelled and I hardly felt something jab my arm.
In a last attempt I tried to reach for that comforting hold, but my hand was empty as my senses were encased in darkness once more.
-
My eye twitched slightly as my mind slowly came to with the sound of a steady beeping. A warm feeling would spread over the lower half of my face every time I breathed out and I frowned.
That's not right.
I tried opening my eyes, but it felt like they were glued shut and I frowned in confusion. My body was so utterly exhausted that when I finally managed to pry my eyes open, I felt like I could sleep a whole day from that one action.
After a few seconds of allowing my vision to clear, I blinked a few times and took in my surroundings. I was in an unfamiliar room. The ceiling was a dull white while the walls were painted in a calming blue, but upon closer inspection, I noticed that two sides of the room were actually made of glass, and that the room was rather small.
I slowly looked around and that was when I realised that an oxygen mask was placed over my mouth and nose, while different types of machinery almost completely surrounded me. I frowned.
Where am I?
"She's awake!" I heard someone gasp and I heard a door quickly open.
My eyes flickered towards the sound, my body too weak to move my head, and I saw my mom and dad rush into the room, being extremely careful not to bump any of the machines as they made their way towards me.
