Clichés are not only those barf-inducing scenes you've seen a countless times. Pwede rin itong mga phrases na madalas gamitin ng karamihan para pampaganda ng akda, o kaya'y para mas madali nating maintindihan ang punto ng author, ganoon. But doing so is not advisable. Clichés are a big turn off.
One example that made me write this (rant) part ay 'yung phrase na, "Gumuho ang mundo ko."
I've seen that statement a million times. At imbes na maawa sa character dahil kaawa-awa naman ang sitwasyon niya'y nandiri lang ako. It shows lack of creativity, laziness sa pag-isip ng mas magandang imagery, irresponsibility, and so much negative adjectives na pwede mo pang maisip.
It distracts your readers. You might think it's a relief dahil madali lang itong ma-gets, but it comes with a great risk. Maraming napapa-irap sa tuwing nakakabasa ng mga ganito. Isa na ako roon.
Another examples of cliché phrases are:
Parang aso't pusa kung magtalo.
Hindi makabasag pinggan.
Butterflies in the stomach.
Lupa, lamunin mo ako!
Pasan ang daigdig.
The trick to avoid being a victim of this is to scrape off the first phrase that comes your head (kapag nagna-narrate ka, for example), dahil most likely cliché iyon.
If you're not sure if 'yung phrase na nagamit mo'y cliché o hindi, you could try to search it on Google nang may double quotation marks sa simula at dulo ng phrase. Kailangang may quotation marks para 'yung sakto mismong result ang lumitaw. Kung wala masyadong result na lumabas then you're cleared. Pero kung milyones ang result, aba'y oras na para palitan mo iyang phrase na gamit mo.
