There were some books I read claiming to be horror, pero halos makalahati ko na ang pagbabasa no'n at hindi pa rin ako natatakot.
Even some authors claim their book is romance, pero puro daldalan lang naman ang ginagawa ng mga characters.
You know, readers of a genre are expecting key scenes, the moments in a story that live up to its genre.
It doesn't have to be so common. In horror, it can either be patayan, panghahabol ng killer doon sa bida, pagpaparamdam ng multo. In romance, readers are expecting at least one kissing scene. Sa adult romance, there should be steamy stuff. In mystery, there must be a scene na mali pala sila ng buong akala and they must solve the case back to square one.
Kung wala ang mga iyon, pakiramdam ng reader, para siyang dinaya.
I know it's important to write whatever the hell you want to write. You're the boss in your story, I know that. Pero huwag mo ring isabahala ang mga reader's expectations sa genre na pinili mo. Isa rin kasi iyon sa mga factor na pagbabasehan nila kung magugustuhan ba nila ang akda mo o hindi.
