Through it all
Part 44
*Selena's POV*
"So you really stayed the whole time?" Justin asked out of no where as I was going over my patient files.
Legally, I probably shouldn't be doing this with Justin in the room but it's not like he was looking at the files or I was sharing any information.
"Yeah," I nodded not looking up from what I was doing.
"What did you do all day?" He asked, begging for more conversation and attention.
I closed my folder, glancing up at the clock to see we still had a long time before the kids would be picked up from school by Carin and Richard.
"I would do on the phone therapy session, just like if I were in my office. I sat at the table and wrote notes in their folders, gave advise everything I would do just over the phone. A lot of my patients didn't mind doing that when they heard there was a family emergency. Some were even shocked that I continued to do sessions at all but I wouldn't be able to leave them hanging like that," I explained.
"Do you miss it?" He asked, kind of catching me off guard. I never really expected that question from him.
"In some ways. I kind of like being there and being able to connect with them in person and you can't do it that well over the phone. But it was nice to kind of have a break, despite the circumstances."
"I missed your smile," he whispered cracking his own smile.
"I missed your eyes," I countered. "I'm not going to lie the last few days were hard. I was beginning to lose hope. I didn't know if I would ever get to see your eyes again, or hear the sound of your laugh. I was really scared."
"Can I be completely honest here?" He asked instantly causing my heart to instantly drop to my feet. I didn't know what he was about to say but whenever someone asks if they can be honest it was never good.
Unable to find my voice I slowly nodded my head.
"The reason I was ... out for so long was I had the choice on whether or not to live. I know it sounds insane but after seeing Aubrey, I had a really hard time deciding. On the one hand it was Aubrey. I mean I sure you know exactly what's that's like with Luke." I shuttered lightly at the mention of my deceased lover. "You may think you're okay and you've handled not having him here but once you saw him everything changes. But on the other hand there were the kids, who needed me. And you, I couldn't just leave you especially not after Luke. But I didn't understand that at first. It's like I had tunnel vision. All I saw was myself with Aubrey again. But I know I made the right choice." He took my hand in his rubbing his thumb across the top of my hand.
*Justin's POV*
Selena finally looked up at me giving me a small smile that didn't really seem to touch her eyes.
"I love you Selena," I spoke saying the words for the first time. It felt weird coming out of my mouth.
Her lips parted slightly taking in a short breath. "I-I"
I placed my hand on her cheek with a warm smile. "You don't have to say it back. I just wanted you to know how I felt about you. And I do love you."
"It's ju-just I've never loved anyone since L-Luke," she sighed closing her eyes, having a tough time talking.
"I know. It's okay. I don't want to rush you into saying anything you don't mean. Take your time. It's okay not to love me. I can wait. I have plenty of time," I said sympathetically.
"Thank you," she whispered lowering her head feeling ashamed.
"Really, babe. It's okay," I chucked stroking her cheek with my thumb using my other hand to softly left her face to look at me.
I leaned over placing my lips on her, in a soft, yet passionate kiss.
We both settled back into our spots. Mine on the bed and Selena on the chair next to my bed with her clients files in her lap.
"So tell me what else has been going on since I was out?" I asked looking up at the ceiling tiles.
"Well Kayden finally likes me. Your daughter seems to think that you were in hibernation and she may or may not have gotten that idea from me," Selena giggles lightly causing a beautiful, breathtaking smile to be place upon her lips.
I joined her in laughter shaking my head at her childness.
"They both were very good for me. I took care of them the majority of the time. We would all sleep here most nights. I would sleep on the chair and the kids slept together on the sofa that was in the other room. Some nights though we would go to the house like when we needed to pick up a new set of clothes we would just sleep at the house and other nights Pattie would take the kids to stay with her and she would bring them back in the morning when she checked in on you," Selena further explained. "They also um," she sighed tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, "they caught Cater."
I let out a sigh. "Sel..." I stopped talking for a moment. "I'm so sorry. That must have been hard for you."
"It's okay. He did a bad thing. He needs to pay. His trial is in 3 weeks. We were all hoping you be awake by then to go to testify. I have to testify too."
I took her hand giving it a kiss. "You are so strong."
"Thank you," she faintly smiled.
"Anything else adventurous?" I laughed trying to lighten the mood.
"Oh yeah, for the few minutes we weren't at the hospital we would just off cliffs for fun," she said jokingly. "Or that one time we went swimming with sharks or oh! The skydiving. You missed all the fun, I swear."
