Through It All
Part 23
*Justin's POV*
"Why do I have to go to this?" I asked crossing my arms pouting like a 6 year old.
"Justin really?" Selena sighed glaring over at me while she drove us to Ryan's house.
Jen was already there 'helping ryan set up'. I don't even know what that means. What is there to set up? It's a few friends coming over for dinner not a freaking house party like really?
"Justin do you want your sister to be happy?" She asked.
"Of course. What kind of a question is that?"
"Ever since the day she booked that appointment at my office, I've never heard her complain about her losing her sister. Not once. It's always about how much you and the kids were hurting. But I'm a therapist, it's my job to read people and understand their emotions and she was dying. She just lost her sister. Her only sister. Her best friend. Not to mention she wasn't even there for the last year of Aubrey's life because she was away at college." By the point she had pulled over the car to talk to me. "She was so unhappy because she couldn't even act unhappy because you were falling apart and the kids needed someone stable. She had to be that so you could have your moment. Justin, Ryan makes her happy. He replaces the pain she feels from losing her sister with happiness. Don't you want that? Don't you want what you felt with Aubrey for everyone including Jennifer?"
I sunk in my seat with my eyes closed trying my hardest not to lose composer especially since the kids were in the car. So I just nodded.
"Then let her go. Let be happy," she whispered placing her hand on my leg.
"What if she gets hurt? What's if she ends up like Aubrey?" I said almost inaudibly.
"That's chances of that are slim. But now it's Ryan's turn to protect her. You did your job and you did amazing but now you get to focus on yourself and your kids. Keep them safe," she said.
"You're really good at your job," I said wiping a tear that had fallen during her little speech.
"Thank you," she smiled and began driving again.
*Selena's POV*
With Justin directions, we arrived at Ryan's house without a hitch, well without a major hitch, but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed.
Together, we got the kids out and walked up to the front door of Ryan's homey looking house.
His house, unlike Justin's, wasn't the biggest house in the entire planet but it always wasn't small. With Ryan being an accountant, he could afford a nice house that wasn't too big but not too small either.
Ryan opened the door with a smile and we all walked into the dimly lit hallway. He led us down the hall to the living room. Much to my surprise it didn't look like a single man lived here. It actually looked like a beautiful family home.
"You have a lovely home. I love the art work," he said noticing a few of the photographs on the walls.
"Thank you. Aubrey was the one who did it actually," he said forcing the corners of his lips up into smile.
"Uncle Ryan!" The kids yelled running into his legs.
"Hey kiddos," he said crouching down to their level giving them a hug before engaging in a fascinating conversation about their favorite tv show Arthur.
"Be nice," I reminded Justin.
"I know it's just... I don't know," he sighed looking at me with defeated eyes.
"It's okay. I promise," I smiled. "Let's find Jennifer."
It didn't take long for us to find Jennifer in the kitchen with one of the cutest aprons I had ever seen.
"Hey," I greeted her giving her a side hug. "Need any help?"
"No, I'm just about done. Ryan was the one who started cooking and someone I ended up finishing it," she laughed, smiling a genuine smile. Anyone could tell she was happy here.
"At least let me set the table," I said turning about to find a table already set.
"I had Ryan take care of that a while ago but thank you really," she smiled placing a homemade lasagna in the middle of the table.
"It smells really good Jen. Why did you never cook at home?" Justin asked.
"I didn't know I could. Ryan's actually the expert. He's been teaching me," she laughed taking off her apron.
"Ryan you can cook?" Justin asked as he came in the dinning area where we all began to get seated for the meal.
"When you're away, alone for college, and you finally get tired of frozen meals and pizza you learn. It just takes a few episodes for the food network and anyone can cook," he nodded sitting next to Jennifer.
Justin and I say next to each other across from Ryan and Jennifer while each kid said at the ends of the table so Justin and I could helps them if needed.
After we were finished eating and some small chit chat, Justin spoke up.
"So I knew you guys didn't ask us over here for no reason. So what's up?"
Ryan and Jennifer looked at each other before nodding.
"Okay there is something," Ryan started holding onto Jennifer's hand.
"And that is?" Justin urged.
"I'm pregnant."
