Kataline'a POV

The alpha told me and Andre to enjoy the gathering because nothing was going to happen, and if anything did happen, then he would get us to safety first.

The gathering started great and the evening went on peacefully. Some wolves even found their mates. Andre and I spent the night together, talking and dancing and enjoying each others company.

It was great. I looked down at my watch to see that it was 11:23 p.m. Something inside me was telling me to run before the clock hit 12. I didn't know what else to do so I just followed my gut. I took Andre by his hand, eagerly hoping he wouldn't argue back and said "We have to go dear, something feels off and I don't wanna stick around to find out what it is."Andre went with it, which was something I'm glad about. He trusts me.

'I do.' he said into my mind.

I led him out of the room and down the stairs onto the second floor of the mansion where the rooms were located. "I think we'll be safe if we stay in your room for the time being." He shook his head and lead me to his room.

His room was on the other side of the mansion so we walked for a while. I looked down at my watch and saw it was 11:36. Only a few more minutes before this thing blows over.

And then it hit me. I stopped myself. Why am I running away? Just because I don't feel safe does not mean that I should just run away. I'm the beacon for goddess sakes. I was born to do this. I was born to protect my pack.

I looked up to Andre in dread and said "I can't go on. We have to get everyone to safety, not just me."

"I don't wanna lose you Luna. I know I'm being selfish by saying this but I can't just let you go head first into this madness." He looked longingly in my eyes then said "not alone at least."I smiled. He filled my heart with warmth and more love for him. He then picked me up bridal style and ran to his room. As we entered, he placed e down gently and in a rushed tone said "We need a plan first and foremost. You said you felt unsafe in the crowd upstairs but do you still feel that way now?" He looked at me, waiting for my answer.

I closed my eyes and disregarded everything that was inhibiting my sense of feeling, then tuned in to my surroundings. Inside this room I felt safe, but when I expanded my senses an eerie feeling of coldness crept up my spine.

"Upstairs is where it's gonna happen. I don't know what's gonna happen but something will. We have to find a way to get everyone to safety without having them panic. Do you have any ideas?"

"Umm, I don't know. We need a distraction. Maybe an explosion or something?"

"Yeah, that sounds dangerous. How about fireworks? Do you have any here?"

"I think we do but that stuff is in the cellar. We should get moving if we want to find it."

"Yeah let's hurry." we ran briskly to the cellar. We searched as quickly as we could. On high shelves and dark corners, everywhere, until we finally stumbled on a box filled with fireworks and matches in the far end of the cellar near a locked door.

Andre picked up the box and grabbed my hand before rushing us out of the cellar and into the back yard. As we began setting up a loud crash resonated from inside the mansion. We both turned our heads to see what it was. There, on the floor of the gathering, on the wall facing us was a small hole that looked as if someone had punched it in.

Andre and I then look at one another, brows arched in wonder, before continuing to set up the fireworks. "What could that have been? Do you think that someone else has turned on the pack? I didn't even hear when the vampires got here. Could it be them fighting off the wolves up there?"
