CHAPTER 8

New Encounters. 

Katalina's POV

I awoke to water dripping on my face. I opened my eyes and sat up, wondering where it was leaking from. It was dark so I used my wolf's vision to be able to see clearer. I was somehow in the woods.

I sniffed the air to get a bearing on my location. It smelt like...my backyard? That's odd. I got up and decided it'd be best if I just went inside and forgot about it. Maybe I'm starting to sleepwalk...or maybe I fell asleep out here and just didn't remember. Yeah, that's it, it has to be. What else could it be?

Instead of letting it bother me I decided to take a cold bath. I walked in through the back door and headed straight for the guest bathroom. For some reason I didn't want to go all the way upstairs and I was too tired to use any magic.

I opened the door to the bathroom and a huge disgusting scent of rotting flesh invaded my nostrils. I gagged. I gagged so much until I toppled over out of the bathroom and puked my guts out on the carpeted floor.

Wave after wave of hurls came right after the other until my stomach began to hurt. The sight in the bathroom was revolting.

A dead body laid sprawled in the middle of the bathroom floor. Their face was skinned to the muscles and their eyes where gouged out from the socket.

Their limbs were all torn from the body and their throat slit so deep if any deeper you could have called it a decapitation. Their heart was ripped from their chest, and there they laid, in a pool of their own blood. The body slowly decaying.

I hurriedly tried to find my phone. Looking everywhere until I found it in one of my drawers. That's odd, I didn't know I had left my phone down here. Weird.

I quickly searched my contacts for Andre's number and then I remembered, the mate bond. I sought out Andre's mind only to come up short. Why the hell was it not working now?! I scrolled through my contacts again until I found Warren's number.

I tapped it and heard it ring once then it went dead. I looked at my phone to see that I didn't have any service. What the fuck is happening right now? I tried using my magic to be able to get a better signal but it didn't happen. Was my magic not working?

My eyes grew wide in terror at the thought. This can't be happening! First my bond, then my phone and now my magic, how? I need help. I need to go look for help.

I ran out the front door, not caring if the house was locked or not and ran to my car. Shit! I had forgotten to grab my keys. Not knowing exactly where my keys were I decided to change into my wolf form and run to town, but seeing as my magic wasn't working I wasn't sure if I could turn into my wolf.

I ran behind the nearest tree and stripped out of my clothes not wanting to tear them and tried turning into my wolf. I tried so hard to turn. It felt as though I was turning for the first time. It hurt like a bitch!

I finally managed to turn and I picked up my clothes in my mouth and darted towards the village. Before I arrived in the village I turned back into my human form and put my clothes back on.

I then jogged the rest of the way. There were literally no people within the village. It was deserted.

It looked as if no one had been there for hours. I walked to the first store that seemed to be open. I saw a phone near the front desk and ran to where it was at the back of the store.

I dialed 9-1-1. It rang 3 times before it went dead. I dialed again and this time someone answered.

There was no voice on the other end though and it made me falter in my speech. I decided against speaking and hung up the phone and tried calling Catherine. I was supposed to call her yesterday to tell her if I was going to the pack gathering or not.
