Chapter 38| breaking

Lucia felt strange following the odd encounter with that woman in Hogsmeade. She had tried to describe it to Severus, but he didn't quite understand the extent of her unease. He thought the woman had her mistaken for someone else or was simply confused. But she had a feeling there was something deeper to it. That woman knew who she was, and she knew Lucia didn't know her.

Since that happened, Lucia hadn't been able to shake the feeling of dread that settled into her bones. Even the smallest noises were startling her. Severus, of course, worried about her mental state. She could see it in the way he watched her with trepidation whenever she moved. It was like he was waiting for her to fall apart any second. She was waiting for it too.

"When you invite someone over, it is only polite to pay attention to the conversation."

Lucia blinked herself back to the present. She looked to her side where Severus was seated in his favored armchair. He was staring at her with his characteristic raised eyebrow. "I am so sorry Severus." She let out a deep breath and ran her hands through her hair. "My mind is just somewhere else right now."

"That much was clear," Severus responded.

Lucia got up to make tea in hopes it would help calm her frayed nerves. "I'm just still trying to get back into the swing of things."

"You're not thinking of that woman are you?"

Letting out a sigh, Lucia went to the small kitchenette attached to her room. "Of course I am." Once the water was warming, she went back to where Severus was sitting. "I wish you could understand how creepy it was," she said dejectedly.

Severus shrugged, "I don't doubt the way it made you feel."

"But?"

"But," Severus started slowly, "I think you are focusing too much of your energy on the matter."

Lucia huffed at that. "I can't help that it's affected me so much." She crossed her arms tightly as she leaned against the wall. "It gave me a really bad feeling."

Severus nodded along knowing he couldn't talk sense into her. "I still believe the woman was merely crazy and caught you in a moment of frenzy." He also crossed his arms and leaned back, but remained silent.

"I guess we'll never know now," Lucia said after a few seconds. Before she was able to say anything else, the tea kettle started to whistle. "We'll probably never cross paths again," she stated off-handedly as she left the room.

"It was most likely a random occurrence."

"I suppose so," Lucia called back.

Severus pinched the bridge of his nose. "She sounds like the type that hang around that area."

Instead of replying to that statement, Lucia just pulled out two mugs from the cabinet. "Tea?" She didn't wait for a proper response before pouring Severus a cup.
