Chapter 58

Despite the plan being risky Silver brings it up in the next meeting "We will be sending Ruby and Evelyn" he says and several of the others sigh in relief "They need a third person" he adds and Ruby chuckles "Where's Jack?" Sakura asks "I have no idea" Raven says "Last I heard from dad was a week ago" Ash adds making Ruby think "You don't think he got stuck somewhere right?" Sky asks "Where was he last week?" Silver asks looking at Ash "Eh, there was something wrong with the weather in Evelyn's time, something about a huge layer of snow" "Summer. Isn't it supposed to be warm and sunny?" Sakura asks "Yes, but I'm not the goddess of the weather, Sapphire couldn't have been the cause, so it has to be something else" Summer says "It was" Jack says walking in, or rather, limping in and the two healers are next to him in seconds "Remember how dad had a magical snow globe?" "Yeah" Summer says "He used it to piss of Ra and mom" "Someone found it and sold it, that someone didn't want to give it back cause he bought it and he hated the summer, I had to get it back the hard way" he explains. Ruby starts laughing quietly "Remember how we used to get in those situations a lot before someone killed most of our parents?" she asks "I'm still convinced you and Silver got us in those situations on purpose" Jack says making everyone look at Silver, who's avoiding looking at anyone "Back then it was fun and games though, we got injured, came home, got a scolding while Isis checked us for injuries and repeat" Jack says sitting down when Evelyn and Bella take their seats again "Here's an idea" Ruby says "How about we three go on this crazy adventure?" she asks poking her brother "I can't-" "That's a lie" Summer counters "It's a brilliant plan" she adds "And don't try getting out of it".

Atem finds Ruby in the library "Your brother was a troublemaker?" he asks earning a nod "Mom had to watch Raven, dad was busy keeping the adults in check, we were bored, so we roped Jack into our crazy ideas and that's the end of that" she says turning a page "Angel's making progress" he says after a moment of silence "Although there are still some rulers insisting on treating her like a kid who doesn't know what she's doing" "Their loss, not hers" "Mana has gone crazy" "Crazy?", only now does Ruby look up "Because she ages a lot slower than most people she has seen most of the priests I had die, Angel and Ash had to lock her up", this gets Ruby thinking "Well your cousin has the same spell on him, Kisara asked" "But they have each other, how would you feel if you didn't have me or Angel?" "Lonely".

When Angel shows her mother where they locked up Mana she's nervous "Can't you undo the spell?" "I could, but not if she doesn't ask it" Ruby says opening the door and when the two are inside Mana hugs Ruby tightly "Do you want me to undo it?" "No" Mana says "It just gets too much lately" "Where's Isis?" "I don't know, she left to travel a while ago, she's getting old" "Mana I can't bring them all back, you know that, I also can't cast that spell on everyone who was a priest during that time" Ruby says "Angel, can you summon the dark magician for me?" "Sure, but that's not my creature" Angel says "Just do it. And get Isis back here". Isis is surprised "That should fix that" Ruby says floating around in a circle around Mahad and she walks to Isis "You left Mana alone?" "I am not a priest anymore" Isis says "Besides, without the necklace I cannot see what's ahead" "And you won't have to" Angel says "Because you get to spend the rest of your life with Mahad, Mana, Seth and Kisara" she adds earning a confused look "But Mahad merged with the-" "And I unmerged them" Atem says "Mana needs her mentor, Mahad needs you and you need Mahad" he adds "Now if you ever get tired of living for an insane amount of time, just visit the temple" Ruby points out before disappearing with Atem.

Turns out that sending Silver, Ruby and Jack starts out horrible, they're all trying to think of an approach, well Ruby's dragging them along through the barrier "So we go to the race tracks" Silver says "Or whatever they have there and find out what caused it" "Something's wrong" Ruby says "I cannot sense anything, no birds, no gods, nothing and you two passed the barrier without any trouble" "I guess we should go find out" Jack says, they find the others, trapped in some sort of spell, as if time had been frozen "Wait I sense something" Silver says and he sighs seeing the same anomaly, just ten times bigger "Okay, that's our way to fix it" Ruby says "You mean our way to the future?" Jack asks "Well your way to the future actually" she says "I have to keep it from closing and don't bother telling me otherwise. I'll give you half an hour before I close it" "Why are we going?" Silver asks "Because there can't be two of me there or two of you here" Ruby deadpans so they head off.

When they arrive they instantly see the cause of the anomaly "Is that-" "Yes Jack, that is indeed a sky kraken, don't let the beams hit you" "It must've turned all the others to stone when trying to get to us". However they get some unexpected help from Noah, Ash and Sky "This is why we need to find them Noah" Sky says "Find who?" Jack asks "Ruby and Atem, they went missing and this mess started" "She's still on the island, same with Atem" Jack says earning a confused look "What? I can't know my best friends magic signature?" he asks "So you bothered to recognize Atem's" "Well his magic signature is similar to Isis" "Where do you sense them?" Ash asks "Odd it's all over the place" Jack mumbles "It's the strongest in a chamber underneath the sun temple" he adds. Turns out that Silver's the only one who knows how to get there seeing as he made it, or at least, his older self did "I'd hide the entrance in plain sight, where even am I?" "Turned to stone?" Sky asks earning a groan "We could ask your-", Sky quickly covers Noah's mouth "We can't give them knowledge from the future" he hisses quietly "Here we go" Silver says opening the entrance. The room is dark, as if something had blown out the candles "Cover your mouth and nose" Jack says "I recognize the scent. Ruby was working on a sleeping gas that made you appear dead hiding your exact location, usually it should disappear after a while, but if they're hiding" "Any side effects?" Silver asks "Not that I know off". They make the gas disappear and Silver picks up a piece of paper "She needs to adds winter roots and summer leaves, not summer roots and fall leaves" he says "Noted" Jack says looking at the list "It's supposed to hide magical signstures, not scatter them" he explains "Winter roots freeze the area and summer leaves make you tired, Bella and Evelyn use them to put people in healing trances". The room, to everyone's surprise is furniced, and they find Atem sitting against the wall, Ruby laying on the ground near him "Won't the creature find them?" Sky asks "Sky we have a problem!" Evelyn yells "Bella just fell ill and I can't find a cure" "We'll find a way to kill it" Noah says "That's what you said before you fought it and lost your arm to it" Ash comments "In my defense, it was that or Angel getting eaten by it" Noah counters "Ruby fixed the arm" Sky explains "Before she disappeared, we had been tracking it before it came here". Ruby and Atem can help, but Silver wants to know why they were hiding "That thing doesn't just turn you to stone, it takes your magic while you're trapped", Silver surprised to see Ruby taller than he currently is, even if it's slightly "Oh no" Jack says "Ruby's keeping the portal open, if it senses her magic-" "We better move quickly" Silver says.
