"Hey dad." I pass by him, walking to the stairs.

"Umm... Hello?" He asks, wondering why I'm not looking at him as I rush to my room.

To be honest, I don't know why either. Maybe it's the assingnment.

I wonder what Alexis is writing about me.

That doesn't matter. I need to write about her.

I pick up a pencil from my backpack and a notebook.

My partner's name is Alex. It's Alexis, but for short, it's Alex. I start off, She really likes to read and ride her bike a lot. She lives with her mom, and no one else. She-

"Winter?" Dad opens the door, "Are you... okay?"

"Yeah, sorry. Just working on an assignment."

"...About?"

"A girl."

Dad's eyebrows raise. "Who is she?"

I roll my eyes, "Not like that!"

"That's what I said about your mother." He laughs, "Look where we are..."

I know what he's feeling. He wishes she was still here.

"...Now." I finish for him.

   He spaces out again.

"Dad?"

"Sorry. What did you say?"

"Uh... nothing?"

"Anyway, Uncle Adam's and Aunt Mac are talking with Sammy because..."

"What?"

"She's pregnant."

"Really? Wow!"

   He spaces out again.

"What did I say?"

"Huh?"

"That made you space out? It always has to do with what someone says."

"Eh. Sometimes I just think of you're mom and a random time."

"But what did I say?"

"You said..." he looks off to my window, revealing the outside.

"Dad?"

"Wow."

"Wow?"

"Wow."

"Oooooook."

"What?"

"Mom sounds like a weird person."

Dad laughs. "She was kind of weird. But she was the good kind of weird. Everyone's weird in their own way."

"I guess that's true."

"Alright. I'll let you get back to your assignment."

He walks out of my room.

I just sit there, not even remembering what I was doing before dad walked in the room. Oh yeah. My homework.

Forget my assignment. I want to know more about mom.

I run out of the door.
