Fall 1996

"What is your favorite subject in school?" Remus asked.

James had to think. Usually whenever he answered he'd be told his talent is nothing like his parents. Harry loved DADA, and Ginny enjoyed Charms.

"Transfiguration." James grinned.

"Huh. Thats interesting, an old friend of mine loved that class." Remus frowned slightly.

James had asked his dad why Sirius had a different surname than Harry. His father only replied that he never knew much about his father and the subject was closed. Now it only made James think about the man he was named after.

"Can you tell me about him? What was his name?" James asked.

Remus stretched out, "His name was James Potter. You probably already know the Potters tragic story though."

"Tragic?" James echoed.

"You dont know?" Remus' eyes widened in surprise.

"No, my parents liked to keep me sheltered from knowledge about the past." James growled.

"Huh, never heard of a wizard who didnt know about the Potters." Remus stated.

"Can you tell me, please?" James asked.

"Why not? Do you know about Voldemort?"

James' eyes widened, "He really exists?"

Remus laughed harshly, "of course he exists, who told you he didnt?"

"My...father." James said weakly.

"Moving on, Voldemort is a cold blooded killer. He went to the Potters house on Halloween when Harry was one to kill all of them." Remus' face filled with sorrow.

"What did that family ever do to him?!" James asked shocked.

"Nothing thats just it! You can be killed for having too much power, or knowledge or for being born with different blood." Remus growled

"Thats terrible!" James shook his head.

"Yes, it is. Voldemort came and killed my best friend James. He then turned his sights on his wife, Lily. Except, he told Lily he'd spare her for some unknown reason. Lily still died, but Voldemort could not kill Harry." Remus shoook his head.

"Wow, thats why he's named the Boy Who Lived?" James gasped

"Yes."

Seconds later, the door opened to Sirius grumbling.

"What happened?" Remus demanded the minute Sirius walked through Grimmauld Place.

Sirius sighed heavily. "I found out what a witch the DADA teacher is."

Remus sighed, "Sirius, all women we know are witches. Whats wrong?"

"Later. What were you and Hugo talking about?" Sirius asked.

"Nothing much, just telling the lad about the Potters tragic end." Remus answered.

"What?!" Sirius yelped.

"The boy didnt know a thing about them. I find it an insult to their memory." Remus answered raising an eyebrow.

"As do I. But Hugo's parents must have a reason for not telling him." Sirius glared at James.

"What were James and his wife like?" James asked a few minutes later.

"Hugo..." Sirius said warningly.
