6 years later

Mia POV:

"Hey Mia, Mr. Knight is here to see you." I smiled at my PA "thanks Katie, let him in." She nodded and in walked my boss, the CEO. I walked around my desk and gave him a hug. "What's brings this unexpected visit Mr. Knight." He chuckled. "How many times have I told you to call me Alex?" I smiled. "I know, but hey I'm trying to act professional like you taught me." He shook his head. "Come on now Mia, you're like the daughter I never had. Don't try and act formal around me. So, how's that handsome boy of yours doing?" I smiled just thinking about my son Ethan. "He's amazing. He starts kindergarten next week. Can you believe it? He's growing up so fast."

"I'm so proud of you Mia, you're an amazing mother and an amazing employee. This company would not be were it is with out you." I took the job at Knight Enterprise after I graduated. Two months into the job I told them I was pregnant. They were amazing and had no issue. In fact they let me work from home for a year and a half and I just came in for meetings. I'm so grateful. Mr. Knight instantly took me under his wing and mentored me. Now, 6 years later I am the Vice President.

"Thank you Alex, I owe it all to you." He waved his hand. "Nonsense, you're intelligent and sharp. I did nothing but steer you in the right direction. That boy of yours is lucky to have you." I couldn't hold back my grin. Then Alex slapped his hands together "so, I did come here with ulterior motives." I raised my eyebrow at him. "There is a charity event tonight. I am unable to make it and I was hoping you could take my place. Please Mia?" I rolled my eyes. "I don't even have a dress." He smiled "no problem! Already taken care of. I need you to look your best since you will be there representing me." I couldn't hold back my laugh. "Anything for you Alex." With that we said our goodbyes.

I called David. "Hey Babygirl." Yes me and David are still best friends and we still live together. We just upgraded to a townhouse on the upper east side of Manhattan. "Hey, can I ask a favor?" "Uh oh, what do you want now?" He always thinks the worst. "I need a date tonight, to a charity event." He groaned. "Uhhh, Fine, you're lucky I love you!" I told him the details and then hung up. I called my PA. "Katie, I'm leaving for the day. If you're all done you can go as well. Enjoy your weekend." "Thanks Mia! You too."

I grabbed my bag and jacket and headed out of my office. I headed to Valentino to pick up my dress that Alex purchased for me. "Good afternoon Ms. Constantine!" The girl at the desk called out. "Hey Karon, is my dress ready?" "Yes mam, would you like to try it on?" I shook my head "no need." I grabbed my dress and said good bye. "I decided to head home since I could get a few hours to hang out with my kid before the event. I hate being away from him but my boss is amazing and gives me so much time off. I never work weekends and if I need to go away on business Ethan always comes with me. I have a nanny that is amazing as well. He's in his early thirties and went to school for child development. He actually teaches at NYU part time. He's super flexible as well and honestly acts like a big kid. Ethan adores him. I got so lucky with him.

I got to my townhouse and unlocked the door. "Anyone home?" Then I heard the running thumps of Ethan. He jumped into my arms. "Mommy! You're home early!" I hugged him back. "Yup, I have an event tonight so I came home early to hang out with my favorite guy." "Yay, can we go to the park and ride bikes?" I nodded. "Of course, let me just change. As I walked up the stairs I spotted Jack my nanny cleaning up Ethan's room. "Hey Jack." He stopped and looked at me "Hey Mia, you're home early." "Yeah, I have an event tonight, think you can stay over to watch Ethan?" He smiled and nodded. "Of course, it's been awhile since Ethan and I had a slumber party." I couldn't help but laugh.

I changed into a pair of skinny jeans and a tank top and put on my sneakers. "Jack, Ethan and I are going to the park for a bit!" I screamed out. "Okay, see you two later!" Ethan and I grabbed our bikes and helmets and headed to the park. He loves riding bikes. He impressed me by learning how to ride a 2 wheeler by 2 and a half.

We were taking a break and eating ice cream when my phone rang, I looked at the caller ID and groaned. It was Mrs. Lois Williams. She really gets on my nerves. Gary is actually okay, we get along very well. But his wife is a pain in my ass. I answered the phone "hello Mia" I groaned. "Hey Mrs. Williams. What do I owe the pleasure?" I could almost picture her rolling her eyes. "I just wanted to confirm our visit with Ethan on Sunday?" Crap, I forgot. "Of course, where should we meet?" She sighed "our home, we need to keep this discreet." I really wanted to smack her. "Of course, we'll see you on Sunday." I was about to hang up when I heard "please be punctual this time. Noon sharp!" Then she hung up. I was late once. Once! And she still holds me to that.

"Who was that mommy?" Ethan asked. "That was our friends Mr. and Mrs. Williams. They invited us for lunch on Sunday." Ethan started complaining. "Do we have to? Uncle David wanted to take me to the zoo." I felt bad, but I signed that stupid contract. "Sorry kiddo, how about we go tomorrow instead? I'll talk to Uncle David about it." He quickly chirped up. "Okay mommy, thank you!" I love seeing this kid smile. He's such a happy kid. He always has been. We finished our ice cream and headed home.

I jumped in the shower and then started getting ready. I left my long brown hair in its natural wavy curls. I decided to keep my makeup light and simple except for more detailed eyes to make my hazel eyes pop. That's one thing I love that Ethan inherited from his father, his breathtaking blue eyes. Ethan has my light brown curly hair though. He's really a perfect mix between Nathan and I. I put on my dress and it was breathtaking. It was a champagne color and long to the floor with a high slit on my left leg. The front was high but had an open back. I paired it with strapped heels and grabbed a clutch. "David! Are you ready yet?"

"Hold your horses woman! It's takes time to look good!" I couldn't help but laugh. David came down looking very handsome in his black tux. "Well, don't you clean up nicely?" I said with a smirk. "Oh please, I always look good. Who do you think taught you you're fashion sense?" I nodded. "Very true, where would I be without you?" He placed his finger on his chin thinking. "Honestly, it's unimaginable. You just couldn't live without me." I gave him a kiss on his cheek. "You are so right." Then we were interrupted.

"Wow mommy, you look so pretty!" I got down and gave him a hug. "Thanks baby." Then I heard David clear his throat. "Uhhhmmm, what about me little man?" Ethan chuckled. "You look handsome Uncle David." David messed up Ethan's hair while Ethan swatted his hand away. "Uncle David! Don't mess with my hair." He whined which made us all laugh. "Alright boys, we need to get going. Jack if you need me just call me. Ethan I'll call you before bedtime to say good night. Love you!" "Love you too mommy. Bye Uncle David!"

My boss sent a limo for us. "Mr. Knight is going all out for you tonight huh?" I took a sip of my champagne. "Yeah, he couldn't make it so I will have to deal with all the business talk tonight. He even gave me an allowance of up to a million to bid in the silent auction." David perked up. "Can you get us a trip somewhere exotic? Please. We need a vacation!" I rolled my eyes. "We just went to Greece for three weeks 2 months ago!" He crosses his arms and pouted like a child. Before I realized, we arrived. David got out first and then reached for my hand to help me out of the limo. I was instantly hit with camera flashes. David and I smiled and posed for a few photos and then headed inside.

"Wow, they went all out for this event. Who's throwing it anyway?" I shrugged. "Not sure actually, I know the charity is for childhood leukemia." He just nodded and we started walking around. "Want something to drink?" David asked. "Yeah, champagne would be fine." He nodded and headed for the bar. Before I new it people were coming over to talk to me. One thing I hate about these events, everyone wants to talk business. I had no choice but to oblige though.

After an hour of mingling and shop talk David and I sat down since dinner was about to be served. I new a few people at our table from business deals but one face shocked me. There was Nathan. He looked at me with as much surprise as I had. I looked away instantly and started talking to David. David looked up and realized why I was acting strange. We quickly ate and then they opened the silent auction as well as dancing. "Come on Babygirl, let's get us a trip or something." I was so grateful and quickly walked away with David.

"Want more champagne?" He asked. "I think I need whiskey, make it a double on the rocks please?" He chuckled. "Anything for you Babygirl. I'll be right back. With that David walked away while I browsed the different items that would be auctioned off. A pendent caught my eye. It was beautiful. I thought it was an aquamarine stone but it was a blue diamond. I was about to sign my name for a bid when I heard his voice, the voice I didn't think I would ever hear again.
