THE LOTUS EATERS
The tribe of the lotus eaters were located on an island that contained a large amount of lotus plants. They were known for their plants as they were the main source of food on the island.
First seen in Homer's The Odyssey (book ix) it was revealed that the fruits and flowers of the lotus were a narcotic which would cause unconsciousness and forgetfulness. If you've read the ninth book of TheOdyssey, you know that it took chaining the men to the ship in order to get them away.
Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson has scenes with the lotus eaters featured. Located in Las Vegas instead of Libya, the lotus eaters feed their guests the lotus flowers and keep them trapped in the casino as time continues outside.
The phrase "to eat lotus" is in reference of the lotus eaters, which means "forgetfulness", "to forget", and "to be unmindful".
