THE ÆSIR
In Old Norse, the Æsir were the members of the principal pantheon in Norse mythology. They are understood to dwell in Asgard, a realm separated from the mortal world (Midgard) by Bifrost (the rainbow bridge).
The distinction between the Æsir and Vanir s relative, for the two are said to have made peace, exchanges hostages, intermarried, and reigned together after a prolonged war. In fact, the only difference between the two is their respective areas of influence-the Æsir represent war and conquest.
