HUITZILOPOCHTIL

According to legend, Coatlicue had lived a prolific life; giving birth to 400 sons and 1 daughter. One day, while on a hilltop, the earth goddess found a patch of hummingbird feathers and placed them on her breast. She immediately become pregnant with a son who she soon named Huitzilopochtli.

The 401 siblings grew jealous of the unborn child residing in their mothers womb. Angered at Coatlicue for the apparent promiscuity they decided to punish their mother by death.

Huitzilopochtli heard the greedy scheme of his treacherous half-siblings. Wretched over the idea of his mother dying, a fully-formed Huitzilopochtli emerging from his mother's womb, dressed in full battle gear and ready to take on his jealous half-siblings. He weilded a flaming snake-sword of death.

He beheaded his only sister, Coyolxauhqui, and held her head high so she could witness her bloody body being mutilated by him. He proceeded to murder a handful of his brothers; and chased the remaining to the heavens.

Huitzilopochtli threw his sister's head to the sky with all his might - a sister moon to all the stars in the sky.
