STORY OF MUSIC

Music was yet to be played or heard of in the land where the Aztec gods roamed in Earth. It was quiet and dull until one day it wasn't anymore.

Tezcatlipoca, the sky god, and Quetzalcoa, the wind god, have been described as very powerful figures. At times, they fought each other but at others they helped one another. It was together when they noticed the world had no sound being played, besides the loud rumbling of thunders or hurricanes.

They began to argue neither of them had the power of music or had any to grant them. However, both gods mentioned the sun had music-makers and singers praising it all day but it doesn't share the gift with others. And so, Tezcatlipoca ordered Quetzalcoa to go to the House of Sun and being back the best singers and musicians for they shall wake up the world with music.

Quetzalcoa hurled himself into the air and began his search to the House of Sun. Once he found the single beach at the endless coastline, he called out the names of the sky's three servants: Cane and Conch, Water Woman, and Water Monster. He instructed them to build him a bridge and which the servants grabbed hold of one another. They began to grow tall and thin and soon constructed themselves like twin like a rope. It formed into a strong bridge that disappeared in the sky for how enormous it was.

The wind god climbed the bridge, the world becoming smaller and smaller below him as he went higher. Once he came to the House of the Sun, he could see its towers shimmering in the distance. Getting to them was not so easy, though. He had to find his way through a maze of streets with high walls. He kept getting lost and going around in circles.
He was going to give up until he heard a beautiful sound that he had never heard before. It was sweet and light. It was music and he absolutely fell in love with it.

Quetzalcoa followed the music and eventually it lead him out of the troubling maze he had been stuck in. He witnessed the musicians in the great courtyard of the Sun. The flute players were dressed in golden yellow, the wandering minstrels wore blue, the lullaby singers were dressed in white, and the singers of love song wore red. Unfortunately, the Sun caught Quetzalcoa and ordered the musicians and singers to stop playing.

However, Quetzalcoa was not going to turn back, so he lifted his wings and ordered the musicians to follow him. They remained silent, he called out for them once again but they did not say a word. The god did not being ignored. His anger blew up and his emotions were showcased as hundred of hurricanes went off at the same time, thunder boomed and clouds swirled around the House of Sun. The daylight turned into evil darkness.

The wind god roared as if there was no end to his voice. The Sun flickered like a weak tiny flame. The musicians ran to the wind and huddled in his lap, trembling with fear. Instantly the wind's anger passed. The thunder faded and the clouds vanished. Quetzalcoatl took the musicians in his arms and left the House of the Sun, moving through the maze as if it were not there. The wind god was filled with great happiness as he followed the sky bridge back to earth. He felt like a father carrying his children home.

The earth could also feel that something new was coming - something it needed and had been secretly wishing for. As the wind god was sensed to come closer, the earth let out a slow sigh of relief. Its fruit began to ripen and its flowers began to bloom with new, deeper colors. The whole planet seemed to be waking up from a long sleep.

Finally Quetzalcoatl touched down on the earth with the musicians and singers. They looked around curiously at the silent, waiting planet. Then they began to play. Through forests and valleys and deserts and oceans they wandered, filling the air with music.
Soon people learned to sing and play, and so did the trees and birds, the whales and wolves, the running streams, the crickets and frogs, and every other creature.

From dawn to dusk the melodies spread until music covered the earth. The wind god was pleased. So was the sky god. The musicians were happy with their new home. And ever since that day, the earth has been filled with music.
