NINGISHZIDA

Ningishzida is the god of vegetation and the underworld. A Sumerian deity, city god of Gishbanda, near Ur in the southern orchard region. Although he was a power of the underworld, where he actually held the office of throne bearer, he seems to have originally been a tree god, for his name apparently means "Lord Productive Tree."

He might've been the god of the winding tree roots, since he originally was represented as a serpent with two serpent heads as well as a human head, and he rides on a dragon. He was a son of Ninazu and Ningirda and was the husband of Ninazimua.

He had a temple dedicated to him in Lagash. The Sumerian king, Gudea revered Ningishzida as his personal protector. He is also associated with the constellation Hydra.
