"What the hell are we doing at a tattoo studio?" Shawn asked. "Matching helix piercings?" I suggested, hoping Shawn would oblige to getting his helix pierced. "Well, aren't helix piercings a 'girl' thing?" He asked. I shook my head, wanting to tell him that piercings aren't a gendered thing.
Shawn kissed my cheek, his way of telling me that he would get a helix piercing with me. "You already have so many ear piercings, I think we should do them on our left ears" he suggested, knowing that I have six piercings in my right ear and four piercings in my left ear.
The receptionist at the tattoo studio told us to wait for a few minutes until their most experienced piercer was ready. Once the piercer was ready, Shawn and I chose the jewellery for our piercings. "Ok, we don't use piercing guns here as they can shatter the cartilage" the piercer explained to Shawn as he was a first time customer at this shop.
While the piercer was piercing me, Shawn watched intently. "It already went in?" Shawn asked, surprised at how quick it was. I nodded, and told him it was his turn. "Ow!!! Son of a bitch!!" Shawn screamed loudly. "It didn't even hurt for me" I reasonated with him. "Because you have lots of piercings already" Shawn said.
After we were both done, the piercer told us helix piercings take six to twelve months to fully heal. "Wait, so we can't change the jewellery in six weeks?" Shawn asked, genuinely surprised. "Babe, helix piercings aren't like earlobe piercings. There's lots of nerve endings and bone in your ear cartilage" I explained. "Oh...that's why when Aaliyah got hers done, she complained about it throbbing" Shawn realised, remembering the time that his sister got a helix piercing. "Didn't Aaliyah's one get infected though?" I asked.
"Baby!!' I need advice on how to clean my piercing and take care of it" Shawn yelled at me once we were home. "Clean it twice a day with a salt water solution and also don't touch or play with it. I know it's tempting, but Shawn please don't do it" I advised.
