Savannah quickly put them on and headed down the stairs as fast as she could. Aunt Lily was already waiting in the car, so she locked the door behind her and climbed into the front seat of the car.
"Please be polite to your mother, I know you think she abandoned you, but she's my sister," Aunt Lily pleaded.
"Fine, but only for you..." Savannah gave in as she stared out the window. A knot grew in her stomach as they drove closer and closer to the party. She was nervous about meeting her mom, what if she didn't like her? She shook it off as they pulled into the parking lot of the hotel.
"Why are we at a hotel? I thought we were going to a party," Savannah asked confused.
"The party is here... in your mother's suite," Aunt Lily pulled the keys out of the ignition and got out of the car. Savannah followed her into the elevator stubbornly and stood against the wall looking at the floor. The doors opened and they walked down the long narrow hall to the suite.
The door was open so they walked inside. Savannah immediately searched for her mom, wanting to get this over with. She had no idea who she was, but she assumed she was the one cooking in the kitchen.
"Excuse me?" Savannah tapped on her shoulder.
"What can I do for you?" she turned around smiling.
"Are you my mother?" Savannah asked nervously. She didn't say a word, but pulled her into a tight embrace.
"Savannah, I love you, I do. I sent you away to have a better life!" her mother's eyes watered.
"Why didn't you ever come and visit me or call? You never even called on my birthday, you're a complete stranger to me," Savannah asked. Tears lined her eyes.
"I couldn't. It would have been too hard for me" she explained.
"What about me? Don't you think I deserved at least one phone call? A letter? A picture? An email? Something?!"
Her mother didn't respond as a tear dripped down both of their faces.
Savannah nodded her head and walked away in search for the bathroom. She walked in and quickly locked the door behind her. She sat on the edge of the bath tub with her head in her hands, trying to calm down. Why was she so rude to her mom? She promised aunt Lily that she wouldn't be mean.
A knock at the door startled her, causing her to jump. She stood up, fixing her dress, and opened the door. She came face to face with a boy, who seemed to be around eighteen. He had perfect dark brown hair and beautiful brown eyes, just like Savannah. He flashed her a quick smile which she returned before walking away. Savannah sat down on the couch while everyone else gathered around the dining room table.
