Song Of Freedom

67 12 34

In the intense hours of dawn
Right when darkness ceases, I sat forlorn
Peeping from the window, a little bird
Perched on my sill, its song I heard
And oh wasn't it a little sparrow?
Singing of freedom in a voice so mallow.

" Isn't it freedom to spread my wings?
And reach for the sky, through its rings;
Glide, its a virtue people often preach
Then why do they cage me, their speech
All lies, weren't they who taught me
To be independent and free? "

" Isn't it freedom to dwell where I want to? "
Then why do they make boundaries and divide lands too?
Why do they not welcome me with smile
Arms held out when once a while
I fly into their territory, am  I not
Of their kind or from their lot? "

" Isn't it freedom to speak my heart out?
Express myself for what I think about?
Can I not sing a hymn of different melody
Why does it have to be in tune with everybody? "

" Isn't it freedom to be you?
Explore the sky however I want to?
Then why do they draw a path for me?
Compelling to trail their footsteps only?
How many heroic tales do they tell
Of valiants who for freedom fell
Alas! All their blood and pain
Because of us went in vain..."

" Isn't it freedom to love those beyond my creed?
Then why is humanity shunned and called misdeed?
Aren't we all created by One?
To live with love and peace here on
Then why do they stage wars and favor
Those they please rest inhumanly suffer? "

" Its not freedom when they govern
My how, why, where and when
They train me to fly only as they want
Else cage and cut my wings and taunt
And so I am left with only to dream
Of my crest glowing in the sunbeam
As I soar above the majestic clouds
Beyond the reach of human bounds."

" In conflicts and terrorism, freedom lost
Its meaning, spoken with no effect almost
Sadly its just the name that is passed
Tomorrow, not the feeling it amassed"

" Unless faith in freedom is restored
And captives set free ashore
Knowing they can look up in the sky
And live as they like, free to dream high
Blood will be shed and battles fought
Its God's gift, one can snatch not."

The little bird falpped its wings, ending its song
Freedom maybe lost but not the hopes it brought along...
