Batman was always serious.

Robin was sitting inside of an interrogation room in the cave.
His left hand was handcuffed to the metal table he was sitting at while he was waiting for someone to enter.

The 14 year old sighed and looked at the huge mirror to his side. He could imagine his friends on the other side. Confused, shocked, or even disgusted.

He finally did it. Rob finally revealed his inner darkness. He struggled with holding it back. But he knew, sooner or later, he'd be screwed. The bird sighed.

The more he repressed it the more it ate him alive. The more it wanted to get out.

He closed his eyes and tried to focus on the good things suppressing the dark memories the darkness brought back.

He remembered the day Bruce took him in... Three years after they died.

The rich playboy billionaire had sympathy with the poor helpless boy who also lost his parents just like him.

He was ten on that day but not helpless at all.

He remembered the day he got a second family as in the Justice League when he was introduced to them and immediately started calling them uncles and aunties.

Or the day he met Wally for the first time. He got so surprised by the yellow blur wich appeared right next to him when he was patrolling in Gotham that he firstly dislocated Wally's shoulder out of reaction.

Luckily for him the speedster started to heal fast. So after an hour there was no evidence left like a fracture.

So he was the next hour just busy snapping the ginger's shoulder back and comforting him while he was in pain.

That's how they got to know each other and, to Dick's surprise, they became instant friends even though the dislocated shoulder incident.

They decided not to tell anybody and just acted like they firstly met when they were officially introduced to each other by Batman and Flash.

By the way, he also remembered the day he also got a crush on... wait... forget it.

He remembered the time he met Dinah Lance, aka the Black Canary, who he already knew from stories he heard from her sister and her sister's beloved years ago.

He remembered meeting Roy and Oliver. He wanted so badly to impress these archer weirdos with his archery skills but held back knowing the consequences of showing all of his skills.

He remembered running away from Bruce for a while before joining his first team that included some new friends with superpowers he met back then. Gosh he missed them.

He remembered every detail of the day Wally, Conner, Kaldur and he built up the Young Justice team.

Since 'they' died, he just wanted to be happy again.

When this didn't work he decided someday to try and make other people happy. To help them, so they don't ever have to go through the same pain he's gone through.

And when he succeeded the first time by saving a person's life, he felt, beside the adrenaline, this warm feeling inside of his whole body.

He almost forgot how happiness felt like...

When he became Robin he felt so incredibly good. He felt like he had a purpose in his life. Helping people and honoring his parents at the same time.

It was amazing. While it lasted...

Robin... That's what his mother called him years ago. Before she died alongside her husband, his father, and the rest of his family at the trapeze.

He shuddered at these memories. Even though the theoretical wound healed, it left a huge scar and this one still hurt.

All he did in his life was to try to make himself happy... He was so selfish. And so stupid... That's what he thought.

'Maybe I don't deserve to be happy', he realized before the door shut open closing the last chapter in his life as the Robin.
