                                              My boss was invited to give a one-off verbal update at a Board meeting. He was so proud that senior people wanted to hear him speak.
                          Before the meeting he realized his peers were regular presenters with formal papers. Not to be outdone, he asked me to submit a paper for him. I reminded him it's a verbal update but he would not listen.
                          The Board secretary took pity on me. We tabled a paper that simply said 'verbal update' and let my boss face the wrath of the Board.

                          He's never been invited back since.
