Lorelai sat reading some of the notes she needed to learn for her business class, her hands sat in her hair frustrated.

"I give up," she sighed.

"Mom you've still got a couple of weeks until finals, you'll be fine," Liv reassured her, looking through her bag.

"Girls, I'm sorry. We're gonna have to live on the streets and get our money through resorting to prostitution until I find one of those pot bellied, balding, childless, millionaires to trick into marrying me before I kill him to inherit all of his money, then we'll flee the country to Barbados," she told them.

"Or get Liv to marry Tristan, his family's loaded," Rory slyly piped up.

"Don't even bring him up," Liv warned her.

"Still not replying to you?" Lorelai asked.

"Ha," Liv breathed, "he hasn't even been in school the past two weeks. Sometimes I forget I'm even dating him," Liv moaned.

"Go and poor some orange juice over him again," Lorelai suggested, "cathartic and he'll remember about you."

"Do you know who you wouldn't forget about?" Rory smiled.

"Kiefer Sutherland?"

"Jess," Rory smiled.

"Rory! No way," Liv tried to keep a straight face.

"You two so like each other! Whenever we go to the diner he actually speaks more than one syllable! And all you do is flirt!" Rory laughed.

"God Olivia Gilmore, what is it with you and the bad boys?" Lorelai smirked.

"You two are impossible," Liv rolled her eyes, "anyway, Luke would probably push me in the lake with Jess if we dated."

"Just think about what you could do in the lake though," Lorelai grinned.

"And I'm going to bed. Good night!" Liv interrupted loudly, shutting the door behind her.

Lorelai buried her head in her hands, "This is bad."

"Mom, you'll pass don't worry," Rory reassured her.

"It's not that," Lorelai whispered, "she can't date Jess. Tristan is bad enough. Why can't she find someone nice, like Dean?"

"Liv's smart. She just has a type that's all," Rory paused, "she won't...you know, get pregnant until after she's graduated college if that's what you're worried about."

"I know. But I know guys like Jess. I've dated guys like Jess. They think they're cool because they've seen a lot of Sylvester Stallone movies, but they're not and they just break our hearts," she sighed, "anyway, I need to study. Go away," she teased.

"Night mom. Liv can look after herself, don't worry," Rory laughed, walking into her room with Liv.

"Hey," Liv yawned.

"Hey. You ok?" Rory asked, eying her sister's confused look.

"Tristan just called. Acted like everything was fine," Liv told her.

"That's good? You two can go back to normal," Rory smiled.

"I don't know if I want to," Liv sighed, rolling over, "night, sis."

"Night."

The girls made their way to the bus stop the next morning, but stopped to see a gaggle of people around Doose's.

An outline of a body lay outside the store, and police tape surrounded it.

"Hey," Rory said, kissing Dean on the cheek, "what's happened?"
