Ruth lay on the beach in Cyprus, her brown locks slowly getting lighter due to the intense sun. Noah lay next to her, both their skins browning in the hot weather. Noah rolled over and gently kissed her. Her dark blue eyes opened and she smiled at him, giggling.

                “Hello, sweetie.” She whispered, smiling.

“You’re gonna burn.” Noah whispered. Ruth sat up and sighed,

“I s’pose.” She sighed. Noah stood up and hoisted her up. “I’m taking you to get ice cream.” Ruth’s eyes lit up. She had always loved ice cream; her ultimate weak spot. She and Noah picked everything up from the send and shoved it in the beach bag they had brought before walking, hand in hand, up to the shops Limassol for ice cream.

“You look so beautiful.” Noah whispered after he’d paid for the ice cream. Ruth blushed below her natural tan and licked her ice cream shyly before her eye’s lifted to Noah’s and she smiled a joyous, brilliant smile,

“I’m glad you think so, because I think you’re perfect.” She whispered, gently holding his little finger with just her fingertips, gently stroking it. They both watched her gently, patient movements as her fingers moved around his before their fingers linked around one another again. Noah smiled quietly, knowing this was the ultimate connection he would manage to create between himself and his wife. They walked back in a happy quiet, letting the Greek island around them fill the noise that neither of them felt the need to fill. They both knew that silence wasn’t always bad, not if it makes you content, and the quieter the world was, the more content Ruth was.

They sat on the edge of the hot, white beach, watching the perfect blue waves break on the soft sand.

“I can’t believe we’re going home tomorrow.” Ruth sighed as she finished the cone. Noah sighed.

“I can’t believe you reminded me about that.” He chuckled. “I have work a couple of days after we get home.”

                “So do I!” Ruth giggled.

“Yeah, but you won’t get harassed about how your summer was.”

“Yeah, I will. Have you really forgotten about Daisy, Poppy, and Felicity already?”

“I teach nearly 1000 students a week, and Rob Howard made it pretty obvious to a lot of the teachers, and a few of my classes, that I got married this summer.”

“How many of the teachers taught us both?”

“Callum McKenzie, Rob, and Georgina Kennedy, that’s it, I think.”

                “Mr McKenzie hated me.”

“No, he hates anyone who has any condition which means they’re not normal.” Noah sighed, “How are things with the sister’s and –in-laws?” Noah digressed.

“Well, I think Lyssa has a boyfriend Evie says she’s metaphorically glued to her phone, and Evie and Charlie are back on speaking terms while your sister and Ryan are perpetually arguing, according to your mother.” Ruth giggled. Noah sighed,

“What do you think of Ryan?”

“I think he’s too different from Abbie for her.”

“I can hear a ‘but’ coming.”

“Yeah, I think she needs something before university. I can’t see them lasting.”

“How did they all do in their exams?”

“Abbie’s going to Swansea to do Maths, Ryan’s got an apprenticeship down here, and Evie’s got into Oxford Brookes to do Physics. Do you never look on Twitter or Facebook?”

“I’m more of a books kind of guy.” Noah chuckled.

                “Your sister’s noticed.”

“Come on you, let’s go pack and tidy before we panic tomorrow.” Noah stood up, and Ruth did quickly after,

“No, you’d pack while I have an attack in the corner.” She giggled, though she was serious; that would happen, and it would make her so stressed. They walked to the hotel, hand in hand, giggling about how Evie was brighter than she let on, or as Ruth put it, smarter than she thought she was.
