All three boys lay awake in three different beds in three different places for three different reasons.
For Zach, the reason was that he knew Jonah had lied to him because despite Jonah's various attempts to persuade him otherwise, he waited for Jonah to come from detention but he never did.
Zach asked one of the students who had left from detention to find that the older teen was never there in the first place. The older teen was clearly hiding something from him and he didn't know why.
For Jonah, the thing keeping him awake was Jack. For how long, he wondered had he been back here and why did he choose him out of all people to tell him. He broke his heart. Lost his trust but clearly he still had some trust in him.
Jack was awake for various reasons. If he didn't tell Jonah he would be at home. If he didn't tell Jonah he would run out of food. If he didn't tell Jonah he wouldn't he sleeping in a teachers spear room. If he didn't tell Jonah, he could've told Daniel. Daniel always knew what to do.
