"You tryna take this to the crib?" I squinted at the raspy voice.

I turned around only to be met with Mack. I playfully punched his chest as he laughed. His voice returned to its normal depth as I glared at him.

"You was this close to gettin got. Had me thinkin I was dancin on somebody grandaddy and shit."

He laughed as I folded my arms. A slow song came on, and I immediately began to make my way to the bar.

"Where you goin?"

I turned around in surprise. "I thought-"

He gently grabbed my hand, pulling me to him. I discretely inhaled his scent as he placed his hands on my waist after guiding my own to his broad shoulders.

"Tryna play it smooth, I see."

He gently laughed, looking me in the eyes.

"Nah. I don't play games."

Becoming uncomfortable under his unwavering gaze, I looked away.

"So, why didn't you tell me that you worked for August?"

He licked his lips before speaking, and I swear I was about to break down right there.

"I didn't think it was important."

I furrowed my eyebrows at him, shaking my head.

"Are you crazy? He'd shoot this entire place up if he knew we were even lookin at eachother right now."

Mack laughed, pulling us closer.

"Are you tellin me that I should be afraid of a nigga that can't even man up and commit to you?"

I paused before speaking.

"So you're just automatically assuming shit about our relationship now?"

He chuckled, bending his face closer to mine.

"Nah. All i'm sayin is if there really was a...relationship...then why you dancin wit me?"

I could feel my cheeks becoming warm.

"You work for him....why are you trying to get yourself killed?"

Mack grinned. "Sometimes I like takin risks."

After dancing, Mack and I were seated at the bar conversing. I took a sip of my water before sitting it on the bar top. I decided to ease up on the alcohol in order to prevent being busted up in the a.m.

"Why aren't you in Miami?"

Mack eyed me before sitting down his glass of Grey Goose.

"I'm still fresh on the scene, so I handle some of the more local shit."

I nodded and picked my water up again, taking another sip.

"Like watchin you."

I began to choke on my beverage. Mack laughed, patting on my back gently until I calmed down. When I finally caught my breath, I looked at Mack, fuming.

"He told you to watch me while he was gone?"

Mack nodded, swirling the ice in his glass.

"He told a couple of us to follow you around...make sure you was-"

I felt myself becoming angrier by the second. I couldn't believe his ass.

"Girl, we gotta go, Lonzo on some-"
