Phil's POV

*5:30 PM*

The flat smelled so good, like walking into a sushi restaurant but better because we didn't have to leave the flat. Dan had literally outdone himself this time, he made almost three weeks worth of stir-fry just because he wanted to. Our dinner conversation was small but filled with laughs, as usual, I'll admit we aren't the 'typical' or 'normal' family but we are a family just the same. I glanced at Dan who nodded back at me, "Dil, could you excuse us for a moment?" he smiled as Dil nodded and ran out fo the room.

Isabella looked up from her food confused, "Am I in shit?"

"Language," she just laughed at me, she knew I didn't like language but she did it anyway, dan turned away so she couldn't see him giggling at the situation. "Anway, Isabella...Is everything 'okay' at school?" I questioned

Her eyes left mine and just stared at her food, "Yup, everything is great. Why?" she seemed tense and worried. What was she hiding?

"Well, see Dan got an email from your Principal," her expression changed from worried to almost terrified, but before I could say anything I got a text, it was Dan...? He motioned for me to answer it. A sigh of relief escaped Isabella's mouth as she started to once again shove her mouth with food.

Sighing as I placed my phone back in my pocket, "Isabella," I reached across the table and took hold of her hand, she smiled but I could tell she was scared of this

Sighing as I placed my phone back in my pocket, "Isabella," I reached across the table and took hold of her hand, she smiled but I could tell she was scared of this. "Is there something you want to tell us about what's going on at school?"

Her eyes met Dan's, "No..." then her eyes met mine, "Nothing is wrong at school" she seemed hesitant, "school is great"

"If this is true why would your principal email me?" Dan's voice was overflowing with concern

"I DON'T KNOW OKAY!? I DON'T FUCKING KNOW! HOW THE FUCK DO YOU EXPECT ME TO KNOW!? I DON'T CARE ABOUT SCHOOL OR ANY OF THEIR SHIT! JUST SHUT UP! SHUT THE FUCK UP!" she screamed

"I-Isabella...?" Dan's voice filled with shock and worry

"...Go to your room..." I muttered

"W-what? Dad I-"

"Go.To.Your.Room" my eyes met hers, tears forming as she ran out of the room.  A loud slam could be heard from down the hallway. My heart was breaking, I made her cry

I pushed my plate forward and placed my head on the table allowing my eyes to only look at my feet. Tears started streaming from my eyes as a hand suddenly was placed on my shoulder, I knew it was Dan. His hand rubbing my back as I turned my head to see him, his eyes filled with concern for me. "Phil..." Quickly I got to my feet and buried my head into the crook of his shoulder, his hands holding me close to him, one hand on my back and one on my head.

"What're we gonna do Dan?" I knew he didn't have an answer but I knew he would say something to lighten my spirit.

"We'll be fine Phil, we're a family. Families have bumps in the road, this is just our bump" his fingers playing with my hair as I slightly pulled away from him and looked him in the eyes. No words, his smile was everything. I wasted no time as I pressed our lips together and wrapped my arms around his neck as his went around my waist.

*Little Later*

I knew she needed space, but I also raised her, so I know she doesn't like being alone. I walked down the hall, passing Dil's room, Dan was reading him a bedtime story and tucking him into his dinosaur sheets. Dan's good with the kids. When I got to the end of the hall, I stood in front of her door for a good three minutes, I don't know why but somehow it felt natural. Even from outside her door I could hear Panic! At The Disco blasting through her speakers, I knocked on her door. Slowly I cracked open her door, "Isabella...?"

I heard her shuffle around and sigh, "Come in,"

I made my way towards her and sat down on her bed as she laid on her covers and hid her face in her pillow. "Listen...I-I think that I blew this out of proportion so for that I'm sorry" she rolled over to face me, "I'm just well you know how I am" a smile spread across her face as she laughed, "I'm just worried, and I just want you to be able to talk with me and your father" her green eyes slowly looked up at mine, "you know what I mean right?"

"Well, yeah I know what you mean...And I know you only want what's best and I'm really grateful" tears started welling in her eyes, "I wouldn't actually be here, here without you or Dad"

That thought hurt my heart, but it's true. Who knows where she would've been if we hadn't adopted her...I took her hands, "I just want you to be able to talk to us okay? We're good listeners when it matters"She nodded and pulled me into a hug, brushing the hair out of her face as I kissed her forehead.

"I love you Dad" she muttered as I headed out of her room.

"I love you too baby girl, sweet dreams"
