"i messed up khale."

"how?" his elbow was circling majority of the table as he attempted to color inside the lines of the cat drawing.

"i was mean to my friend. or-- yeah my friend." sei rolled their eyes.

they hadn't talked in days.

she didn't so much as look in their direction when the two were in the same room.

"why were you mean to your friend. did they say something mean to you?"

sei shook their head, and tipped back the cup of water.

"no."

"then try to be their friend again and say sorry."

he said, like it was the most simplest thing.

"it's not that easy."

"it is. grown ups just make it that way."

sei smiled a small smile, watching over the small person.

they threw their cup into the sink after standing up.

"thanks for the advice."

"what?"
he looked up with raised eyebrows.

"thank you khale."

"no problem." he smiled, not looking up from the coloring book.

sei walked to their room, pulling their phone out of their back pocket.

they clicked on pen's number without a second thought.

the phone picked up after the third ring.

"pen, i'm sorry."

silence.

"i...i just. you're overwhelming sometimes. and kinda intense. i don't know what to do with that. everyone is so self-absorbed and...you--"

sei was getting nowhere with this. she still hadn't said anything.

they missed her voice.

"can you say something?"

silence.

"fine don't talk. i'm not gonna beg you to talk to me."

pen hung up.
