Sue sealed the deal with demon princess Priscilla by just a shake of their clasped hands. It didn't magically solidify his fate or anything, it just like a business-like confirmation from both sides. His father had locked him in that room in the sewers for his “arrogance” after he upset her father, but soon he wouldn't have to worry about that anymore. Priscilla slit her forearm with a dagger and he had to lick the bloody slit to obtain her powers, which flowed through her DNA, much to his disgust. But he didn't mind too much, he would become one of her guides, a tester of souls in Purgatory. But that was only the boring part, his freedom from this dull life and newfound abilities was more exciting.

It only required these minor sacrifices: the inability to age physically afterwards, the inability to have children, the death of his parents, the memories of his existence erased from all who knew him, and the absence of something very very dear to him. That thing that was dear to him was a single person: his sister Dorothy. The only person who didn't treat him like a freak because he didn't understand all the fear and sadness towards death, and his borderline sociopathy. His intelligent mind cracked a plan to get rid of both her and their mother and father. With Dorothy’s innocence, naivety, and greed everything would go smoothly.

However, as Dorothy was exploring the sewers after finding a hidden key to a door that lead down there, and Sue was waiting for her in that room, he slipped on a puddle of rat’s urine and knocked himself unconscious. When Dorothy entered, she was alarmed at the sight, for this boy, who she now had no recollection of, was bleeding from his head trauma. In short time, she rushed upstairs and got help from a couple servants in carrying him to a guest bed. Her parents called the town doctor, and he was tended to, and apparently no one in town knew of this child.

When Sue awoke, Dorothy was at his bedside, and his stained blazer was removed thanks to its odor of piss. She shouted for everyone else, he was given food and water, consoled, then bombarded with questions. Who was he? Why was he in the sewers? When and how did he get in the house? Where did he live, who were his parents, and could he find his way back home?

However, Sue couldn't answer any of them coherently. He had lost all the memories of his life, the only thing his mind held onto was his purpose as Priscilla’s guard: delivering souls to Purgatory and testing them. When he told them this, they all just exchanged concerned glances and dismissed it as him feeling a little loopy from his injury. Despite his violet cat-like eyes, a trait he got from drinking the princess’s blood, unsettling them they agreed on taking care of him until his amnesia faded.

So for weeks Sue stayed and wandered the halls of the mansion, Priscilla away all this time and unaware that he wasn't going about sacrificing anyone. He had a deadline of half a year to do this, otherwise his position as a guide would be removed, therefore killing him and sending him to Hell. Dorothy both annoyed and endeared him, never leaving him alone and always insisting they play games. He often found himself in the library, reading to his heart’s content and hoping she wouldn't interrupt his time of peace, or in his bedroom with a batch of tea a maid served him and a chess set. Since Dorothy didn't know how to play and no one else was ever interested in being his opponent, he played against himself.

At first, Sue was quiet and reserved, always feeling as if everything was just wrong. He shouldn't be there, he should be performing a supernatural duty for someone. But he copied the others and tried dismissing it as an odd side effect of his head trauma, not even sure how to go about doing this job anyways. Then, his behavior changed a little. He started observing people intently, to the point they felt uncomfortable, and ‘playing tricks’ as they called it. He was starting to discover his abilities again, how he could summon fire in his palm and read minds. A need to toy with people and find out what makes them tick arose.
