"Could I just say, my darling, I think you are being rather selfish." Julian's mother was speaking to him.
"I am NO... I am, aren't I mother?"
"Yes, I do believe you are. Elizabeth should be apologised to."
"Of course." Julian waved goodbye and rushed to Elizabeth. "Elizabeth..."
"Yes?" Every bit of her strength was being used at this one attempt to speak. Her skin was pale, tired.
"I'm so sorry. Really, I am. I was being so selfish..." he paused, sitting on her bed. "Am I forgiven?"
Elizabeth smiled weakly. "I guess so. Thank you, Julian... it means a lot to me..." Julian looked at the floor, smiling slightly.
"I'm glad we're friends again," he nodded.
"Is Joan..."
"Er.. no, sorry..." He looked around. "It's just me here."
