Elizabeth wondered to the dorms that night thinking about what Arabella had said. Did she mean that she was sorry? She never had before!
She smiled. Arabella was obviously trying to be nice so that she could do something mean to her.
"Eliz!" called Joan, "Look at Belinda's mouse!"
Elizabeth ran over to her.
"What's wrong Joan?" she asked.
"Look!" Joan said, quietly.
Elizabeth peered into Joan's hands and saw a horrible shock. She gasped.
"The poor thing!" she exclaimed.
"I just saw it... here... on the floor," Joan replied.
"Joan!" Elizabeth said, wide eyed, "What can we do? Belinda loves her mouse! She'll... be heartbroken."
