There was a roast for tea. It included potatoes, carrots, broccoli, chicken, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. They ate quickly and went off to bed.
That night, Jenny and Joan were both awake for different reasons. Jenny was excited for the trick she had planned, which nobody else knew about! Joan was worried about Elizabeth and Arabella. It couldn't be a cold, surely!
Meanwhile, Elizabeth's mother was making arrangements for Elizabeth and a cousin to travel up on a train and then in a taxi to Whyteleafe.
Elizabeth thought to herself, What made glass fall on me? Did I put it on there?!
They all soon got to sleep, for an exciting new day!
