WENDELL'S POV

"Keep your eyes on me okay?" Wendell held his girlfriend in arms after she had just been shot on a walk in the gardens outside the Jeffersonian Institute. Sirens wailed getting closer and closer. Booth ran down the steps to the couple pulling out his gun, Brennan, and Cam following. "Did you see the shooter?" Booth yelled at Wendell who shook his head and attempted to stop the bleeding. Brennan took Wendell moving him away from the bleeding woman, while Cam tried to stop the bleeding by applying pressure. The Paramedics arrived and moved to help the unconscious woman. The rest of the team arrived on the scene watching as the medics moved their teammate into the ambulance with Cam as Brennan held Wendell. Hodgins moved to help her. Angela watched helplessly as they moved him to one of their cars promising to take him to the hospital and that she would be okay.

The team, now joined by Booth and Sweets who confirmed the shooter was in FBI custody. The hours felt like days to the team. Angela was crying silently into her Hodgin's shoulder while he attempted to calm his wife down but making no attempt to hide his tears. Cam was rubbing her hands still seeing the blood of her friend on them. Brennan and Sweets were both talking quietly to Wendell trying to help while Booth paced to the ends of the waiting room.

"Y/N Booth's family?" The doctor entered the room glanced at the folder in his hands before looking up at the distraught team in the waiting room. "Yes," Booth answered knowing Wendell couldn't. "First of all she is alive and will recover, secondly the bullet missed all vital organs but she lost a lot of blood. She will need to stay for at least a week just for her safety. She is conscious but only two of you can come in." Nodding Booth helped Wendell up. The doctor moved them to the room she was in before quietly closing the door behind them. The room was dimly lit and the glow of the machines highlighted her pale face. Her eyes flicked open showing dull E/C eyes. "Hey princess." Booth whispered, smiling she replied voice cracking slightly "Don't call me princess." Her eyes flicked to Wendell whose eyes were red and wouldn't meet hers. "How are you feeling?"

"Like I was shot." Smiling her eyes searched Booth's before turning to look at Wendell. Booth held her hand tightly for a few moments before moving out the room to tell the team she was okay. "Wendell, Wendell look at me please." Her pleading voice forced him to raise his head. "It's not your fault, you did not shot me. You saved me by applying pressure. And yes I know Cam applied pressure to but you were already helping to stop the bleeding." Wendell raised head before "I'm so sorry. You got hurt. I didn't want that to happen. I love you Y/N. I can't lose you."

"You will not lose me, Wendell." Wendell smiled before gingerly taking the young woman into his arms and hugging her. The rest of the team entered quietly. Angela gasped "Oh yay! You're okay." Rolling his eyes, Wendell moved to sit in the chair beside his girlfriend. After talking for an hour, Sweets suggested that they leave so she could sleep. The team filed out one by one. Booth and Wendell stayed. The young woman fell asleep with both holding one of her hands. Booth glanced at Wendell who hadn't taken his eyes off her. "I'm happy that she's found someone like you. But if you hurt her I will shot you." Wendell nodded shakily. "I won't hurt her Booth. I love her." Booth's phone went off, glancing at it he sent a reply before releasing her hand. "I have to go, Bones, needs me. You should also get some sleep, Wendell." Kissing his sister's forehead, he left.

Wendell glanced back at the young woman, before softly kissing her cheek. He then settled back in his seat, holding her hand and slowly rubbing his thumb over the back.
